I know there area few other writers running around on the forum. How many of you have taken workshop classes? I've taken a few, but writing Fantasy has made it tough. Many of the teachers didn't know how to handle genre. I went to the Maui Writer's Retreat and had a great time, but not a great critique. The lady in charge of our class just didn't know how to read fantasy. The one thing I did get out of Maui was a recommendation to look into Odyssey or Clarion. Both are genre workshops for science fiction, fantasy and horror. "Six week boot camp for writers", I called it. The difference between the two is Clarion focuses strictly on short stories, but Odyssey lets you also submit novels. As a novelist this was huge. It was one of the best things I ever did for my writing.

I know the early entry deadline in past, but I thought I would share in case any of you are stuck or just want more help with your novels.

Good Luck,

Hi Gals,
I run the World Literary Cafe, you should check it out. I'm an author as well - three bestsellers, one going to film (yay!). Also, the Writer's Center in Bethesda, MD has writing classes.

Enjoy each and every day, no one else can do it for you. Read, write, pay-it-forward.

Thanks!

I (sadly) have put writing on a back burner lately. I have pulled out a writing contest and will work on it this week. Thank you for sharing. I haven't been to my writer's group in a long time.

Laurie,

Thank you so much for this. I love to write. In fact, I write every single day if I can. I've sent a few things out and had them quickly rejected. But I'm not giving up! When I think of how many other now 'famous and doing well' authors were rejected, it just makes me believe that one day maybe I can do it too!

hugs
Marcy
