Has anyone read this yet? I just got it for Christmas, and so far it is really a good book. As you delve deeper into the book, he's borderline radical, but in a good way. He makes a lot of sense and has opened my eyes to some things, and on others he makes me realize things I had never considered. It's entertaining, enlightening and educational with a bit of humor thrown in. And so far, I'm only up to page 61. If he didn't use 'big' words, I would swear that I was listening in on a conversation between my dh and one of our neighbors. Joel's viewpoints sound just like them! If any of you have read it, let me know. I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

Ya know, Kristine, I had that very same thought - I would love to sit down and visit with his wife, too. Can you imagine some of the stories SHE has to tell! I'm thinking Lunatic and Illegal are the next ones I want to read. If I buy another 'how to' book for the farm, dh may just toss me in the pond - and right now it's just a little too cold to go swimming!

You Can Farm - is great with lots of "how-to's"
Lunatic Farmer - real writting in his voice, great info on farm system & gov. problems. Made me laugh & cry.
Everything I Want to Do is Illegal - All I can say is awesome!!!

I love the frugality that he talks about is all areas of his family's life. Would love to talk with his wife :)

Kristine - which other books of his did you read, and which did you like the best? I'm considering getting another one of his, but I'm not sure which one I want. I was thinking the 'Lunatic Farmer' one. Oh, I would LOVE to hear him speak! Some of the ideas in this book are really sound and encourages me to work hard to make Paradise as self-sufficient as possible. My dh is trying to push me to finish it so he can read it, but this is a book to read slow and savor!

The book is on my nightstand, too. I've read many of his other books and heard him speak too. He writes just like he talks. It's awesome. He has great, practical ideas that are frugal and believes that family's can live on a farm and support themselves without debt.
Amazing concept!

I have the book sitting on my nightstand. It's in my stack to be read. Can't wait to discuss it!

I'm already a believer in what he says, but he even opened my eyes a little wider.

I'll have to look for that - I definitely admire him, but haven't read anything by him yet.

Julie, I added that one to my wishlist when it came out. I wish the people who SHOULD read it would read it though. Lots of folks would benefit from a little of his eye-opening insight if they would only take it to heart!
