I am reading Spencer's Mountain by Earl Hamner Jr.- the book that inspired the series and it is SO good. Some of the character's names are different, but other than that it is a lot like the show. It's a quick read as well, I just started it and I'm over half way through.

Just thought I'd share!

I read a book many years ago that said on the cover it was the inspiration for the Walton's TV show. I'm not a big fan of the show, but I was a little shocked by the plot. In this book, the John-boy character hoooks up with a girl and spends the rest of the book worrying that he's gotten her pregnant, which would mean he won't be able to take the college scholarship that's going to get him out of his depressing little town. Not what I was expecting. Is this the same book?

Spencers Mountain with Henry Fonda is one of my favorite old movies, watch it whenever I can catch it.
