I'm working on a bibliography on rural lifestyles and the family farm. As a relatively new member of the MJF Sisterhood and many of the related topics, I think this is a great way for me to explore a topic I'm interested in and land a research publication at the same time (the benefits of tenure!)

What magazines (besides MJF!) do you consider absolute must reads? The type of article I'm working on is used by librarians to build their collections in a given area---so it's an opportunity to tell the library world about those resources you really think they should have available. Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Heather---you might check with your local public library. Until March of 2010, Mother Earth News was full-text in a number of Ebsco databases, so you might be able to pull up the article and read it online through a database available through your public library. I hated to see Mother Earth stop their full-text content but I can understand why economically they felt like they had to.

I've also noticed that Mother Earth News "repurposes" their articles in those special issues they put out from time to time. My local store has two of those on the shelf now---one's on living on less and I'm not sure what the other one has as its focus. These are almost always articles that were published in prior issues, so your article may pop up in one these "new" collections.

Always the librarian (!!),

I also like Country, and Country Woman. I'm pretty sure I like Mother Earth News too but I haven't been able to afford many issues of it. I really wanted one issue they had about 4 years ago on breastfeeding when I saved the money to go get it the store no longer had it, I was so upset! uhg!

Thanks for the ideas---although, Dutchy, I'm not sure how many librians from the Netherlands read the journal I'm hoping to get this published in!

I have the same problem, sort of---one of my favorite cross-stitch magazines is published in London and it can be very difficult to find (and too expensive to subscribe, due to the shipping and exchange rate.)

I would say Countrysides is a great one! It has mainly reader done ideas. The previous editor Mr. Belanger has also written numerous farm books! I have several & use them constantly!
