Posted - Apr 26 2011 : 1:48:09 PM This is by far the best book I have read in a long time. It is a memoir of the authors childhood growing up during the depression on an Iowa farm. I totally recommend it. I read it in about four hours; I couldn't put it down. I was blessed to be able to go a reading/discussion by the author and have her sign my book. She was just an adorable lady which made me want to support her even more, so I also bought another five copies and had them signed for some family members for xmas.

Posted - Dec 06 2011 : 09:24:32 AM Did you know that in December 2007, the New York Times Book Review proclaimed Little Heathens to be one of "The 10 Best Books of 2007?" and that MaryJane was honored to be asked by Mildred to write a back-cover endorsement? Here's what MaryJane said on the hard-cover edition, "Now that cell phones are a way of life, you won't find a better way to participate in the Good Old Days. Little Heathens is a bit of history begging to be borrowed. Like a neighborly cup of sugar, it will sweeten your modern-day life."

Oh yes, I left the author out. The author is Mildred Armstrong Kalish. Here is a link to the book on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Little-Heathens-Spirits-During-Depression/dp/0553804952/ref=sr-11-1/002-0485702-0114427?ie=UTF8&qid=117394327&sr=11=1
