Okay, here we go for Anne of Avonlea discussion questions.
Warning: There may be spoilers in the questions or answers, so if you haven't read the book yet and you are reading this discussion, be prepared to be informed!
Feel free to answer any or all of the questions. These are discussion questions, so there are no right or wrong answers. If you have your own questions you want to ask, feel free!

Enjoy!

1) What do you think about Mr. Harrison’s story?

2) Anne is only 16 when she begins teaching full time. Our views of 16 year olds is different today than then. Do you think these differences are good or not?

3) Describe Davy and Dora in your own words.

4) Again, we see the theme of adoption coming from a sense of duty. How are our views of adoption different today?

5) Kindred spirits cross age and gender barriers. How are farmgirls like kindred spirits?

6) Who is your favorite minor character and why?

7) Hester gray’s garden plays a significant role in Anne’s life, both in this book as well as later ones. Describe in your own words why you think it is special to her.

8) How do you feel about Miss Lavendar’s story?

9) Favorite quote from this book.

10) Share your own "bend in the road" experience.

Quite the opposite Sarah. I was not, and am not embarrassed. Whether it came from the movie or from the book, I like the quotes, and saw that no one else was participating.

I sent the email cause I didn't want to embarass you Kristine. I just know how confusing it is on the internet, because the movies were so popular, all the websites seem to be devoted to people who love the movies, not the books. It's too bad too, because the books are so fantastic! And the quotes are all jumbled up, which is what happens in movie adaptations. The only website that i found that is truly devoted to book lovers is the LM Montgomery Literary Society- http://home.earthlink.net/~bcavert/index.html and in all honesty they're pretty hardcore literature people. There's great info on there, but I don't really get into all of it, since there's so much stuff on it.

CurlysQuilts, I got your e-mail. Our library is small and the town is small, so not all books are there.

I guess that goes to show that the information on the Internet today is not always correct huh?

I have hopes to have a collection of them myself someday. It would be a nice set to have on hand for spontaneous reading.

I don't have the book at our local library, but searched on-line. I like these quotes:

Gilbert Blythe: All pioneers are considered to be afflicted with moonstruck madness.

Anne Shirley: I went looking for my dreams outside of myself and discovered, it's not what the world holds for you, it's what you bring to it.

I will be back with my favorite quote - needing the book again from the library.

I am so sorry. I completely lost track of this. I got so carried away with working on badges, I forgot. I'll have to get the books from the library.
