Hi Farmgirls,
Just wanted to share with all of you some good books I have read recently that I thought you might enjoy as well. They cater to the simplistic way of life we are all seeking, while offering helpful tidbits and ideas along the way to accomplish them. The first book I absolutly adore for super easy reading is "The Prairie Girl's Guide to Life...how to sew a sampler quilt & 49 other pioneer projects for the modern girl". This book was so cute and interesting detailing how to braid hair, cook a pot of campfire coffee, making a rosewater spritz, etc. I just loved it....and I know alot of you already do your own candles and soaps too....so this may be something you would enjoy. My 2nd suggestion is "Homesteading...a backyard guide to growing your own food, canning, keeping chickens, generating your own energy, crafting, herbal medicine and more" by Abigail R. Gehring. The title pretty much sums up all this book has to offer and the pictures are pretty too. My other favorite is "Country Living's Simple Country Wisdom...501 Old Fashioned Ideas to Simplify your Life", by Susan Waggoner. I keep referring to this book alot for new ideas and reminders of how to clean areas, cooking, etc. Then my last suggestion is a bit more light-hearted, but very tender and sweet too. It is a story about a young woman, Shreve Stockton, who voyages to Wyoming to start a new life for herself and in the process mothers an orphaned coyote. I just loved reading this book because Shreve really made you feel the connection she has with her new family member and the struggles she has parenting him. So, if you are looking for a few new reads to devour, maybe these suggestions will be right up your alley. Farmgirl Hugs, Erica |

Another farmgirl just loaned my The Backyard Homestead - How to have a homestead on a quarter acre. Or something like that. I'm excited because we have a quarter acre and I always thought it was too small to really homestead! I can't wait to read it.

I picked up the Praire Girl's Guide to Life in a booksale and love it! I will definitely try out some of the other titles.
I've been working on a project this summer about women's work and the 1940's and came across a sewing book that I have fallen in love with: Judi Ketteler's Sew Retro: 25 Vintage Inspired Projects for the Modern Girl. I'm working on projects from the book this month.
