I'm glad I'm not the only one here with a lot of subscriptions! I got a bunch for myself for Christmas this year when I found subscriptions cheap on amazon. Since friends/family opted not to do gifts anymore, I decided to put money towards "gifts to grow the homestead" and magazines were one of them. I get MJF, Urban Farm, Backwoods Home, Mother Earth News, Hobby Farms, Hobby Farms Home, and Vegetarian Times (not sure why, I never cook any recipes from it...I loved Reiman's magazines but they don't do a meatless one :( )

Besides Mary Jane, I like Grit, Mother Earth, and Backyard Poultry. Of course, Southern Living is a good old standby

I just picked up an issue of Grit... I think I may enjoy it. Country Living, Southern Living, and Hobby Farm Home, besides MJF are my other favorites. I let my Papercrafts expire, I can get inspired by on-line card galleries, instead. And my library lets us check out Mother Earth, so I don't subscribe.

Mary Janes Farm of course!
I too get Hobby Farm but I love Hobby Farm Homes-it has a little bit of everything. Some of the things in this month's issue that caught my eye: farmhouse chedder, homemade ravoli, braiding garlic, an article on fiber and an article on creating a scrapebook record of your poperty to pass down the generations.
Backyard Poultry and Farm and Ranch Living- photos and people writing in about remeber whens. And they feature different farm and ranch families who provide a journal of their days.
These are my favorites.
Other magazines I get , Grit, Dairy Goat Journal, Herb Companion and Mother earth News.
Then other people get: Field and Stream, Bow Hunting (I think there's another bow hunting magazine too), Primitive Archer, Deer and Deer Hunting, Turkey and Turkey Hunting and also Young Rider and Horse Illustrated.

My ALL-TIME favorites are, of course, MaryJanesFarm, Scottish Life, Ireland of the Welcomes, Papercrafts and Country.

I also enjoy Sunset, and Health but am letting these subscriptions go for now because of expense.
Like some of you other farmgirls, Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion was one of my most favorite but is no longer published . . :( Loved the paper dolls in them!!!

Well of course MJF is my most looked for but I also subscribe to Mother Earth News. I have issues dating back to number 1, I am that old, lol, Family Handyman, great projects with instructions, Country Living, Birds and Bees, Real Simple, Country Home (which they discontinued) Garden Gate and others I can't remember since they are not my favorites.
Now I can't actually afford to subscribe, but no matter how broke I am I always renew my Mother Earth and my MaryJanesFarm. The others I get at yard sales, thrift stores (we have one that sells all the magazines for 10 cents each and I just picked up 12 Real Simple, 3 Marie Claire and 1 Oprah magazine). Found 26 Mother Earths at a yard sale for $5..the woman selling them said they were her husbands and he didn't know she was selling them but if he got the price of a six pack he would be OK...I kind of doubt that knowing how much my old Mothers mean to me, anyway they were the early issues before color and on newsprint paper so I gave the duplicates away to a couple of farmgirls.
I never throw any away though, I take them to our 1 laundra mat or offer them to my fellow farmgirls at our meetings.. The more people that get to read one the better we are all.
Whew, but I do love to read!

I used to subscribe to 10 different magazines...now I'm just down to MJF (the budget, as always). Occasionally I will still pick up Reminisce and Good Old Days, I love them both. I so miss Country Home. Country Living is getting better than it used to be...it was awesome when it first came out. Hobby Farm and a few others when they have something I am interested in. If I could afford it I would have subscriptions to all of them.

I used to get Reminisce but never tried the Good Old Days.

I know these aren't crafty or decorating magazines but I really enjoy Good Old Days and Reminisce.

Forgot to mention that AC Moore will accept coupons for magazines, so I try to buy the expensive ones there. Michael's will not accept coupons for magazines or books and Joann's puts its magazines on sale for 10% off so you can't use a better coupon. Dianne

I have purchased one issue of Primitive Place and it is really good. Only thing is that it only comes out 4 times a yr and is $32 for a yr. So not sure if I am going to get more.
textilelover Posted - Jan 27 2011 : 04:57:50 AM
Yikes! Did I say Stitch was affordable? It's $14.99 and is published a few times a year, but worth it. It has so many full-size patterns, so I justify the purchase by dividing the number of patterns into the price...LOL! Dianne

I get about 5 different quilting magazine and I get all of the taste of home mags as well. I also get Country Women, Country, Country Extra, Living the Country Life, MJ magazine of course, Farm and Ranch. I also recently subscribed to a primitive country magazine but can't remember the name of it (I am still waiting for the first issue).

I have a little magazine problem too. I love all the magazines put out by Somerset; like their Home magazine, Studio; Where Women Cook and Belle Armoire, Prims.I also love Cloth Paper Scissors Magazine. I love to read about crafting and maybe someday I will actually do some crafting!

I recently discovered Romantic Country and love it!! I wish someone from their magazine would come decorate my house. I also really like Hobby Farm Home and Organic Gardening. And I always end up reading my husband's Mother Earth News.

Magazines are my weakness. Trying to downsize since retiring. So, besides MJF: Piecework, Herb Companion, Hobby Farm Home, occasionally a Stampington.

I am in love with these magazines. They are like buying a small book of inspiration. They are a bit pricey but if you use your joann's coupon it makes it a little better. I only subscribe to MJF and Herb Quarterly so buying one of Somerset's every now and then is ok. I usually get the Where Women Create and try to get a different one each time I head to the big city (not very often). Recently got SEW - just a little bit of sunshine when opened on dreary Michigan days :-)

I love any quilting magazine, Country Woman, Hobby Farm Home, Organic Gardening and Crafts-n-Things.
I subscribe to Quick Quilts, but McCalls Quilting, Quiltmaker are all good. I subscribe to a different one each year to get the full spectrum of creativity.

I loved Hallmark. They actually quit making it and the rest of my subscription was replaced by Family Circle or some such magazine. I also miss Mary Engelbreit's magazine. I subscribe to Country Living, Mother Earth News, National Geographic, National Geographic Traveler, Ready Made, and I often buy Martha's magazine, so I should probably just subscribe.

I have let most of my subscriptions go in the past year in favor of more "healthy" solutions. I have since subscribed to Mary Jane's Farm, Hobby Farm Home, Mother Earth News, and Life Beautiful. At one time Hallmark had a magazine - yes, like the card company - that I really enjoyed, but it was expensive and I let my subscription lapse. Haven't seen it on the newsstands, so it's been out of sight and out of mind. I have a friend who passes along her Southern Living - which is a find for Soutehrn gardners. Lots of good ideas there and always the most fabulous recipes.

Thanks for listing your favorites - I've gotten some new titles to check into!

Oh, I forgot Stitch, published by Interweave. Not many great affordable sewing magazines out there, but Stitch is one of them. Dianne

I don't watch TV so reading is my addiction--books and magazines. My favorites are MJF (of course!), Hobby Farms Home, British Country Living, Victoria, Romantic Homes, Where Women Create, and a great British sewing magazine that I have much difficulty finding called Sew Hip! I'm not even sure it's still published but I have a friend moving to London for 3 years, so she'll look out for it. I don't care for MSL, Country Living or BH & G anymore and I used to love Country Home, La Vie Claire, Mary Englebreit's Home Companion, Adorn (indie sewing and craft)--but they are no longer published. I'm sure I've even forgotten a few! Dianne in the Hudson Valley
