Hi all--
I'm brand new here, though I've been a magazine reader for some time now.
I was just thinking today that I should recommend my all-time favorite series to the other Farmgirls as I'm sure many would enjoy it as much as I do.
The series begins with 'Suds In Your Eye' by Mary Lasswell. The books were written in the period from 1942 to 1962. They can be found at vintage bookstores and various places online.
I was turned onto them by my father when I was about 16, and have never stopped picking them up since. They are very light reading, and they make you feel good about life. I pick up one whenever I need a little pick-me-up.
The series is about 3 little old ladies who are best friends that survive all types of hardships and happy times together with lots of laughter and beer-drinking. They were WAY ahead of their time, I think. There is even a cook-book based on the many recipes written about during the series.
Try to find some-- I guarantee you'll be glad you did!

Thanks for the recommendatiion, Penny. I will order it from the library too. I read a couple reviews on Amazon - and one reviewer said they made a play out of the first book. Has anyone read any Miss Read books? She writes lovely, relaxing books from the 1940s (I think - maybe earlier) in rural England. They are quite nice for an escape...

I remember reading this book in high school, also on my father's recommendation. Enjoyed it thoroughly and will try to find it again.
