I am a big fan of the Diana Gabaldon outlander series. It's a historical fiction novel about a woman who goes back in time during the Scottish Highland/Jacobite era. Covering England, Scotland and America. There is so much information in this series, that I couldn't stop reading them. It tells a lot about how people lived 200 yrs. ago, and about medicinal herbs. I thoroughly enjoyed.

I think that's the second book Alee. I was really bummed too when I opened the book and read so much time had gone by, and thought that Jamie was dead. But it does get much better. I think Diana did a great job of pulling out of it. Keep reading, I think you'll like it. =) |

I forget which one I am stuck on whether it is the second or the third one. I am on the one that starts off with her being in the modern world with her daughter and she finally explains to her daughter about the time travel. I am having a hard time getting back into it knowing she left Jamie for so long since I feel pretty much no loyalty to Frank. LOL

I LOVE Diana and the Outlander series. I have the latest and am taking my very own sweet time reading it. It's like coming back to an old friend when I pick it up. Because it's an ETERNITY between books, I try to pace myself very slowly. In fact, I often reread the series between books just to stay fresh and excited about them. I've learned a ton and dread the day the series comes to an end.
I've often said STRICTLY IN JEST, that Jamie Frazer was the only man I'd ever leave my husband for...if Jamie knocks on my door, my sweet man had better just step back out of the way! 
I've read some similar books, but nothing I like as well as this series. What about you all?

I happened to get Outlander free on my Kindle and I didn't think it was "my kind of thing" initially. I have found the series very addictive so far, even though I'm only on the third one.

I LOVE these books! I am currently half way through the last one. It's gone the slowest for me, the scenes with William drag a bit at times lol. A buddy got my dad started on the first one, then he got his sister, now three of us "kids" are reading them....they are addictive. We are all readers of various types but none of us had heard of these before. So the past few months I have done a LOT of reading!

I think "borborygmus" was in the last book or next to last. The scene was something to do with soldiers. Isn't that the coolest word? Now that you know what it means you can amaze your friends.

I have read the books and am waiting for the next one. Had to look up the word "borborygmus". lol. Just didn't remember it from the book.

The last book was back n' forth for me, and then the end.....ah.....now I need to wait how long to see what happens?? :)

I, too, enjoy Diana Gabaldon. She is the only author I know who used the word "borborygmus" in a sentence. No, I'm not going to tell you what it means!

Another Outlander fan here. Her's are the only books I ever re-read. I'm not a big fan of the Lord John books, but read them to fill in the story in the main series.

We had another thread about Diana and her books....I think it was last winter.
I have all her books, and have had the new one for awhile, but don't want to read it until I read through all the others again!!! It is taking me a long time, I never have time to read anymore, but hopefully soon. I have always loved time travel and history, so to have them both in the same series is great!

This is my absolute favorite, favorite series of books! I like them so much I have multiple copies of all of them, almost like a compulsion to buy more... I almost 'grew up' with the books. I read the first one when I was a sophomore in High School, and kept right on from there, picking up new ones as they come out. I've read all of the books multiple times, and when the most recent book came out I wasn't expecting it. I was walking thru the book aisle while doing my grocery shopping and it caught my eye from the bottom shelf. I actually skidded to a stop, backed up and got goosebumps when I saw the new book. I bought it and started reading it that night! My husband has resigned himself to the fact that nothing will get done when I am immersed in the pages of these books. I love them! And I'm sooo glad she's writing more, I wasn't sure what I'd do if there wasn't more to the story! |
