Posted - May 31 2006 : 06:39:59 AM I know most and/or many of you have read Thoreau, me too but for some reason last night I started to read AGAIN, Walden. It's been quite a long while since I read it but this time I got so much more out of it. I didnt stop until it was finished. What an amazing man.

Posted - Jun 01 2006 : 10:52:23 AM One of my favorites too - I read it first when I was 13, so it has been a life-shaping experience for me. I'm glad you mentioned it - it's on my to-do list to give it a good read again.
Thoreau actually took the time to THINK - and to think independently. Sometimes it's hard to remember that is possible..

Posted - May 31 2006 : 7:08:30 PM I remember the first time I had read a snippet of Walden in high school - his words and wisdom were so poetic - there has not been a naturalist to match him since. He respected Mother Nature - something society today really should be doing. "I went to the woods to live deliberately..." That book is one of my very favorites.

Posted - May 31 2006 : 08:03:10 AM Michele - I agree - that book can be very easily placed in the "perennial favorites" category for me, too. It's been a long time since I've picked up Walden, and I just might again soon... Thoreau certainly was a thoughtful, wise and interesting man, I agree.
XOXO, Libbie
