I loved this book so much I read it three times (and counting). I was just gearing up for a re-read! I'd love to read and discuss if anybody's interested!

I read this it was a good fast read. Picked up a few hints as how to avoid a soggie pie crust which I am looking forward to try on the Thanksgiving pumpkin pie. Most of it remined me of my Grandparents, they lived so much like what was written and I remember when spending time there. Good book you will not be disapointed.

Sue, I think it's bits and pieces from the old Foxfire books. If you've already read all the old ones, you've probably got all the stories in it already.

I read this a while ago and loved it.

JessieMae - does the foxfire book have any new stuff in it or is it a compliation from the other books - I have all of them and would love to have some 'new' bits to read.

I just finished this book a few weeks ago, and I liked it, too. If you liked this book, I suggest reading The Foxfire 40th Anniversary Book: Faith, Family, and the Land. It is a compilation of the Foxfire magazines. (If you've never heard of the Foxfire magazines, it is a high-school student-produced magazine that teenagers living in Appalachia created that contains stories and interviews gathered from elders in their rural Southern Appalachian community.)

I just finished "Little Heathens" also. What a trip down memory lane. I was born in "48, but was raised alot like Milli...right down to the little school house. Well, I was called heathen so often..thought when I was adopted that my first name was changed too. Ha.:)

Since I grew up in the same era, I thought the book was a kick. But remember in those days we didn't have alternative ways of doing things. You just did what needed to be done. Put on the apron and went to work. I still wear my apron today. Iowa was a great place to grow up. Bonnie

Isn't it great? I just read it a week or two ago and loved it. Sometimes we think we have it so good because we don't have to work so hard and have so many conveniences, but after reading that book I'm not sure we aren't the ones who have it worse! Judy
