Some of you have probably read this one already, but I just discovered "Made From Scratch" by Jenna Woginrich. I just checked it out from the library and I love it! The author sounds just like me, haha.

"One day Woginrich, a Web designer, threw her hands in the air and vowed to change her life. She was going to be more self-sufficient: produce her own food, make her own clothing, live a simpler and more fulfilling life. Easier said than done, she soon learned. This amiable memoir charts her course to self-sufficiency, documenting her successes and disappointments, exploring what it means to make the shift from consumer to producer. It’s almost two books in one: each chapter (for example, the one in which she tells us about her early misadventures in chicken raising) is accompanied by a brief guide to its subject (in this case, she talks about the importance of selecting a breed, choosing the right food, and providing a proper, poultry-friendly environment). The book, therefore, is simultaneously a lighthearted fish-out-of-water, city-girl-turns-homesteader memoir and a more serious primer on making a lifestyle change. Perfect for environmentally conscious, do-it-yourself readers."

I, also, loved "Made from Scratch." I think it was one of the first books I read when I started being introduced to a new simple lifestyle. I read her blog everyday religiously. It's one of those things I do when I first get home and relax from a long day.
I believe she has another book out about chickens.

Read the book and loved it. Now I'll check out the blog. The book is a good primer for starting some farm girl style projects. You really feel if she can do it, so can I! Dianne in the Hudson Valley

I have read the book and hers is one of my favorite blogs I go to every day. I love reading about her daily life. Very interesting. I think she is writing or has written a book about raising chickens.

I just finished it! I loved it too! Very practical and fun at the same time. It made me want to try so many different things!!!!! And it made me realize that some of the things that I thought I couldn't do because I didn't have the room was just in my head. I can do some of those things on a smaller scale! Yipee! I still can't have chickens because of HOA rules, or a hive, but I can plant a small garden and maybe get a few rabbits! :) Great book - I'll back you on that one!

I read her blog every day and even though I have never met her, I consider her a friend. Her book is great. I got it at the library first and then had to buy it for my bookshelf.

thanks Laura for the recommendation. I've had my eye on this book but didn't know of anyone who had read it. Have to check out that blog, too! Judy
