I read this book earlier this summer & really enjoyed it. Was wondering if anyone else here had read it & what they thought of it. Julia Roberts is in the movie version that is coming out later this year. I am eager to see it.

I didn't really care for the book, but I really enjoyed Elizabeth Gilbert's writing style. She would be really entertaining if she wasn't so darned self-centered and narcissistic!

I watched the movie and loved it. It is great for making you think and I found I related to a lot of the stuff that was going on in her life. Different circumstances but the same overall feelings. I got a different perspective from the movie. Haven't read the book but would like to read it.

Give thanks to yourself everyday for all the wonderful things you do!

I just started listening to Committed, Elizabeth Gilbert's follow up book to Eat, Pray, Love (read by the author herself). It is about her and her fiance's marriage, but also an extremely interesting history of marriage. I am enjoying it thoroughly! Dianne

I have read the book and seen the movie. As usual the movie changed so much from the book. I found the book so-so.

Loved Eat, Pray, Love, but even more than that I was so excited to see a post from my Farm Friend Amy Grace! Welcome back! I've missed you. Dianne PS...Did anyone read Elizabeth Gilbert's ex-husband's book, titled Eat, Drink, ______ ? I saw it last Christmas in the bookstore and thought it was a goof until a book club friend said it was his response.

I finished reading Eat Pray Love yesterday. Hmmmm. I liked the Eat part for sure..after that I felt like I was mostly MAKING myself finish it. Not sure why exactly but I guess it felt slow and didn't hold my interest very well. (I did get alot of knitting done this week though) I probably won't see the movie at the theater (I only go a few times a year and usually with the kids) but will be sure to watch it when it comes out on DVD. It will be interesting to see how they do it.
I need a nice light mystery book after that one.haha.
Hey...any of you who wants to read it...if you email me I will be happy to send my copy off to you. I wasn't planning to keep it so I would be happy for someone else to read it and then pass it along or keep it.

I'm waiting for a friend to lend me the book. I'm thinking it will be better to read the book before seeing the movie. Interesting listening to all your yeas and nays!

Practical Magic is a book!!!! I love that movie. Going to have to track that down. Glad you mentioned it, Sheri. Your reasoning is exactly why I try to read the book before seeing the movies....Harry Potter, Twilight, Lord of the Rings to name a couple. Okay - so I like fantasy series!!!! Gotta know what the grandkids are into.

Blessed be,

I really enjoyed the book. I enjoyed all aspects. I hope that they were careful with the premise when they made the movie. So many times I find movie versions of books I liked almost unrecognizable as the same story. Alice Hoffmans Practical Magic was one of those. It was like two totally different stories.

I found some parts slow, but I really did like the book. I enjoyed all three 'parts'. My friend wasn't too crazy about the 'pray' part, but I found it very interesting. I'd recommend it.

I've been considering reading it, but didn't know if it was terribly philosophical. I'm interested in what people think and how they arrive at their ideas, but I like it mixed into their story or something that changes pace from just "thinking". Does this book do that or does it get bogged down alot?

I liked it a lot - I was laughing hysterically during the soccer-game monologue, had to read it out loud to my husband. I liked the "eat" part best too, but I did like the self-exploration direction of the book.

I found it kinda slow. I found myself skimming more after the eat part and half way through the pray. and really ramped the skimming up in the love part.
I think the movie will be better than the book because of the actress.

I read it last winter. I liked the book because if showed a woman whose life was in a mess and how she decided she needed to change it completely. She succeeded in finding what worked for her and a happy life. I like the positive nmessage that we are not just victims of circumstances but rather in charge of them. I would like to see the movie with my grown daughters.
