Posted - Jun 09 2010 : 7:34:16 PM I picked this book up at a local thrift store this afternoon...I had a book by Sartre in one hand and this little gem--The Sweetness of at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley, in the other. Needless to say, I put Sartre down-
Anyone else out there reading any of his books?
I think Mr. Bradley is a wonderful author-I can't wait to start the next in this series called; The Weed that Stings the Hangman's Bag...

Posted - Jun 14 2010 : 07:43:41 AM I really liked it too. I was a little leery of such a young heroine, but really enjoyed the book! |

Posted - Jun 10 2010 : 5:28:38 PM I was at the library this morning.... I picked up Fast Food Nation, and told myself "no more books until that's done, and the 5 others sitting next to my bed, with no time to read them"!! Then I saw your post Melody, looked up Alan Bradley's website, then went to my library website to put both books on hold!!!!! :) They both look really good, thanks for the tip!

Posted - Jun 10 2010 : 06:13:58 AM Alan Bradley's first novel described as wickedly brilliant. It's about an 11-year-old girl Flavis de Luce, an aspiring chemist with a passion for poison. It is the summer of 1950-and a series of inexplicable events has struck Buckshaw, the decaying English mansion that Flavia's family calls home.
This is the 1st book in a series. I have already put in a bid on E-bay for the 2nd book called The Weed that Strings the Handman's Bag.
Here is the author's website--- http://flaviafanclub.ning.com/
I can't put it down...it reminds me of Louise Fitzhugh's books about Harriet the Spy. I read those over and over when I was a girl.

Can you tell us a little about it? The title sounds interesting. Is it a true story?

Posted - Jun 09 2010 : 7:39:47 PM I enjoyed this one Melody - somebody on this forum recommended it; I have my name on the list to check out the newest one at the library. I think I am number 42 in line so it might be just a bit - anyhow, a good read! Amy Grace
