Posted - Mar 31 2010 : 05:04:10 AM I would appreciate any recommendations you can make. I am nervous about picking up a new book right now. My father passed away 12/23/09, and a really good friend committed suicide on 2/23/10. So I am trying to stear away from any books and even movies along those lines. So if you know of a really good book that's "safe" I'd appreciate it. Thanks (((hugs))) |

Posted - Apr 02 2010 : 8:19:21 PM Carol - good call!! I just read the whole Mitford series this winter, my grandma died in November, and those books were just the thing I needed, just so many words of wisdom in them. I can't believe I forgot I read them already, what a space cadet....

Posted - Apr 01 2010 : 11:50:44 AM Stacy, I'm reading one right now that I am really enjoying. It's called 'These Is My Words, The Diary of Sarah Agnes Prine - 1881-1901' by Nancy E. Turner. It's a story inspired by the author's own family memoirs. There are a few sad things in it, but the happy and interesting times far outweigh them. I'm sorry for your losses. I lost my own Mama March 10, 2009 so I kind of know what you mean. I think you might like this book. The farm sisters here highly recommended it.

Posted - Apr 01 2010 : 11:20:52 AM What about a chicklit book like The Devil Wears Prada or something like that? It's an easy, light read with nothing depressing in it. God's Blessings, Megan aka Loretta Rae

Posted - Mar 31 2010 : 05:59:17 AM Hi Stacey -
I love the Amish/Christian fiction books by Beverly Lewis, Wanda Brunstetter, Cindy Woodsmall, etc. I don't remember anything too awful in any of them. In a few of them someone passed away from a farm accident, etc. but not by taking their own lives. I'm so sorry about your losses.
Hugs back to you! Luanne beekeepersgirl #691
