I bought and read this book.
It is the book written by the lady who went a year without buying anything unessential.

It was OK, not as good as I expected.
It has more of political and other viewpoints then the details of not buying "things".

In case any one does want it I have listed it on half.com

I looked at the half.com site, liked it and will go back. typed in APRONS, and they had a few nice apron books,,plus just a fun site to look around on.

Just finished reading this book and then so did dh. We loved it. I thought her adventures into what kinds of things can come up for you and between you and other people were quite telling. Also her analyses of the results that occur when a nation is so dependent on people shopping were frightening.

70% of all Americans are in debt - to their eyeballs. We're not talking about a car payment, or a bit of credit card debt, we're talking stressed out with too many bills they can't pay for.

Now I'm not saying anyone should pack up, be afraid, and Scrooge your money, but I think Judith Levine uncovered many unhealthy aspects of our ideas of needs, boredom, and personal fulfillment in this country.

The author has been interviewed a number of times and always points out this is not a how-to book, but rather a personal journey of a life without constant consuming. I haven't read it and I've ordered it from my library as soon as it's in, but I'd love to hear her account about how it felt to be outside of the machine of advertisments and consuming.

I hadn't heard of half.com, either. Thanks for both the listing information and the website info!

XOXO, Libbie

It is a great place to list and sell books.
I have had a lot of good luck with them.
