It's so gray and gloomy during the winter I just want something funny to read. Does anyone have any ideas?

I agree on "A Walk In The Woods". I don't think I have laughed that much reading a book. I started it and it was so funny, I ended up reading it to my husband. We both loved it and the characters in it...very funny!

I second the Patrick McManus suggestion, hilarious stuff.

I also recommend Bachelor Brothers Bed and Breakfast by Bill Richardson. A series of essays/memoirs about twin brothers who run a bed and breakfast which caters to people who love to read. They live in a very small, but very quirky, community, and some of their adventures had me in tears of laughter. Also, some of the sections are very sweet and touching, so it's a lovely read.

"The Bucolic Plague" by Josh Kilmer-Purcell is hysterical! It's the story of a gay couple who move from Manhattan to a farm in upstate New York. They start a farm business, raise goats and sell goat soap and cheese-they've been very successful. If you've watched The Fabulous Beekman Boys they are one and the same.

As a fantasy reader The Keeper series by Tanya Huff had me on the floor.

Which Patrick McManus do you recommend that I try first?? If I have a title I can make sure I get the right author. I'll order one from the library and give it a read!

Have you ever read the James Harriot series, All Things Bright and Beautiful, All Creatures Great and Small, All Things Wise and Wonderful and The Lord God Made them All. They are the funniest books but the win your heart as well.

Patrick McManus was the first author that made me laugh out loud. The other...Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books. I laugh so hard I cry!

I'm off to the library tomorrow, so will see if they have some of these.
Amy Grace, Herriott is great. We used to watch to PBS versions of his stories. They make one laugh and cry at the same time sometimes.

I would highly recommend, if you haven't read it, "The Egg and I", by Betty MacDonald. I will not let the book out of my house. I've read it, at least, four times. I laugh out loud reading this book.

If you want laugh-out-loud funny I would recommend Patrick McManus - he is an outdoor writer from the Northwest, also I have had plenty of nights trying to stifle laughter and not wake DH up while reading James Herriott

I'm reading Ford County by John Grisham. I love the way he writes about the people, it just makes you smile. It is just a collection of short stories.
