Just finished two books about the farm- both are about Indiana (my home state):

Home on the Farm (If Chickens Could Talk)- by Lorene McCormick Burkhart- this is a great memoir of her growing up in the 40's on an Indiana farm and the back part if full of yummy family recipes

Rural Free- A Farmwife's Almanac of Country Living by Rachel Peden- this is separated out by months and is full of what's going on at the farm that time of the year, which animals are doing what- lots about nature, etc.

Bean Blossom Dreams is another good one. I loved Little Heathens.

It's not about being perfect, but enjoying what you do. Set aside time to be creative.

I just finished Farm City and really enjoyed it. Very thought provoking. I'm going to try some of the other recomendations here. Thanks girls.

I just read one called Farm City by Novella Carpenter that I really enjoyed. The author is an urban farmer...she really lives "bloom where you are planted".

Those sound great. Add to the list : Little Heathens by Mildred Armstrong Kalish about hard times and high spirits on an Iowa farm during the great depression. Also Once Upon a Farm by Bob Artley. It's great for children because he is an artist and has great illustrations about the way things were on the farm in Hampton Iowa. He was an illustrator for many newspapers for much of his lifetime and is a delightful old gentleman.

These sound like really good books! I'll have to see if the library has them in. Thanks for sharing Ashley!
