Posted - Sep 25 2009 : 11:46:02 AM I just finished reading "The Egg and I", and "The Plague and I" by Betty MacDonald. What wonderful and funny books. When reading the "Egg and I", my husband would come running when he would hear me laughing so loud. There was a MJ farmgirl who recommended these books that I would love to thank. Thank you for the recommendations. Marly

Posted - Oct 02 2009 : 8:09:13 PM Oh, gosh, How I love the Egg and I! I grew up watching the movie - it was made in 1947 - and found the book a few years ago - give it away as gifts, as I find it at Half Price Books. I got the movie from Amazon a couple of years ago, in a set of Ma and Pa Kettle movies. It's just the BEST! |

Posted - Sep 30 2009 : 07:35:29 AM Marly, that should work. I'm reading 'Can't Wait to Get to Heaven" by Fannie Flagg. She wrote Fried Green Tomatoes, which I love the book and the movie. She will also make you laugh your fannie off.

Posted - Sep 29 2009 : 7:25:20 PM Melody June: I laughed so loud, I scared myself! Such good books. That woman knew how to write. And- she writes about how she loves her coffee!!!!!!!! I have there of her books, which I am lending to a friend. But, if you can wait, I'll send them to you. This friend tends to read a bit slow. So, don't hold your breath. LOL Marly

Posted - Sep 27 2009 : 04:49:48 AM Marly, Did you know The Egg and I was made into a movie years ago? It had Fred MacMurray and Claudette Colbert in it. I actually watched the movie before I ever read the book, but I love both! The movie was the inspiration for the Ma and Pa Kettle movies. Ma and Pa Kettle both appear in The Egg and I. Betty MacDonald had I think 2 more books, have you seen those?

Posted - Sep 25 2009 : 4:38:50 PM Hi Marcia: It was mentioned on a long list of books that had been read. If it was you, thanks. I loved the books. Especially "The Egg and I". I wish Betty MacDonald would have lived longer to write more books. Marly
