I have been reading this book this week, got it on paperbackswap btw..
The author is Carolyn Jessop and her story about being born and raised into a polygmaist community. She married at 18 and became the forth wife of her husband and had 8 children. He had 7 wives and over 50 kids...
And I am just amazaed at what this woman had to go through on a day to day basis. The fighting and abuse and the struggles that her husband and sister wives caused her. She escaped with her children and had to fight to get them back I believe, I haven't read that far. But she has stood up to her husband and the leader of the community and she has such strength! The leader is Waren Jeffs, btw.. and she tells about the things he did to turn them into a cult, the rules he made and changes he forced. It is a real eye-opener and fasenating read.

Anyone else read it?
Elise

I haven't read this one, but I did read Jon Krakauer's book on the fundamentalist Mormon cults, Under the Banner of Heaven. He touches on Warren Jeffs and life within these communities too.

I read this book and loved it. I used to live near a polygamist Mormon community and worked with some of the women. The women were wonderful, hard working and family oriented and thrived against the odds they were faced with much like the lady in this book. I think Warren Jeffs belongs in prison and what he has done amounts to racketeering and abuse of women and children of the worst kind. I wish everyone in America would read this book!

Mr. Warren Jeffs is presently in prison, having been convicted of having sex with an underage girl, among other things. All those women in plural marriages have a hard road to plow.
