Guess what I just found.... I was given a box of old books that belonged to my grandfather. Among them were his school books and various farming books. He originally wanted to be an airplane mechanic, but started farming in 1931 instead so there were a few machanic books in there too. But the real treasure is an original Uncle Tom's Cabin. The binding is shot, and the hardcover is almost dust...but what a find!

Belle you are so right! Its a shame that kids today can't learn differnet styles of writing without it being racial...I want to read it, but am afraid it may fall apart....just found out that my mother in law bought the record and the book of Uncle Tom's Cabin and its in sotrage at her place. So the story is narrated through out... NOw to find a record player....
Dutchy: that cat cracks me up!

What a find! Would love to read the old school books. I have some of my Grandma's books and her slate. Everyone had a slate and piece of chalk. No one had paper and pencil. This was like 1890. I love , love, love old history books. I have one that keeps talking about "The War". The book was written before world war 2. One of the histor books says that this new country was settles by Christians, followers of Jesus Christ. Now-a-days, that book along with Uncle Thom's Cabin would be yanked from the school library.
