I know, I'm shouting...

I am right in the middle of the book "Letters of a Woman Homesteader" by Elinore Pruitt Stewart and I just can't get enough. You all MUST find it - library or otherwise - and check it out. She is amazing. Her letters are incredible...

It was given to me for Christmas by a lovely woman whom I had lost touch with - she is such a kindred spirit...

Hey Libbie-
I pass through that way quite often. I'll give you a holler next time I'm coming through! It may be short notice, though- sometimes I have to go for work and leave with little notice.

That is SO interesting - lucky you and lucky her! That all sounds SO interesting - someday when I'm up closer to you, I'd love to chat with you about things like that - or, when and if you head down South, let me know! I'd love to have you stop by. I'm just outside of Richfield...

Thanks, Libbie! Terry and I have been friends for years. She mentored me when I was first trying to make a living as a naturalist. I have since taken her place at the Museum and she has influenced me heavily.

Oh, Lorie - that one IS wonderful. I bought it years ago to read what Terry Tempest Williams wrote in it and really ended up loving the whole thing. Great idea!

If you liked that you should definitely try Sisters of the Earth by Lorraine Anderson. It is a compilation of womens writing s on nature, how it heals us and how women have a unique and intimate relationship with it.

My mom recommended this to me- there is a companion book of her letters written during an Elk Hunt as well. I love her books and it is amazing to see how "real" people lived during that time period.

And if you live in a place with a library smaller than your house and you can't afford to order it, go to:

http://etext.virginia.edu/toc/modeng/public/SteHome.html

Here you can read it online.
