Posted - Nov 16 2007 : 6:47:14 PM COUNTRY WOMEN: A HANDBOOK FOR THE NEW FARMER by Jeanne Tetrault and Sherry Thomas. An inspiring, instructive manual of basic rural skills ... and a guide to discovering your rightful relationship to the land. 383 pages. Large paperback.
I like this book, even the old back-to-the-land hippy-ness of it is fun...good book with a lot of knowledge packed in it. I am building a small farm and homestead library of useful books and this one is just fun to read while being educational as well.

Posted - Nov 17 2007 : 08:30:58 AM yup, that's where I found information on tanning sheep skins and all sorts of other problems that send me running in a blind panic for more information. There are a LOT of new books out as well and so maybe we could keep it as a sticky post or something...I'm kind of an eco-friendly farm girl in training as a animal care taker on a farm, so I'm doing my residency as it were, for when I get my own bit of land...lol! I sure plan on doing things a lot different on my own place. I appreciate all of the wisdom and down to earth knowledge that we share here.

Posted - Nov 17 2007 : 08:21:44 AM Yep - I'm out here! Lemme see what I can look back and find. I just KNOW there was something!!!!
By the way - I just LOVE "Country Women." It is SOOOOOOoooooo fun to read, and really has great information. It's also a confidence-builder if you're going at it by yourself. I happen to be married, but I do a lot of the farmy stuff alone...

Posted - Nov 17 2007 : 07:41:32 AM I think a few years ago that thread was started but there are so many new farmgirls it would be fun to do it again. I'll see if I could find it. MB PS. I think Libbie started it and it was about books needed for farmgirls and farming. Are ya out there Libbie? Do you remember?
