I don't know if any of you are lucky to have this store near you, but yesterday, dh and I went to our Half Price Books, and I took along my list of books that copied down from our farmgirl chats in this forums--among them, The Other Boleyn Girl, A Gathering of Finches, and Massacre at Fall Creek. I found these three, and at $6.98 they were a steal, but then there was 20% off of everything in the store for labor day!!! Yippeee!!!! I'm 3 quarters of the way through The Other Boleyn Girl, and I'm going to TRY to save at least one book for vacation.
So, I came away with several wonderful reads, including some great books about dogs, gardening and cooking. Oh, girls! You should SEE the cookbooks--just zounds and zounds of them, all current, all of interest, and then there's the junior league section! Oh My!
Anyway, if you can ever get to one of these stores, I know you'll love it!

Me, too, Tasha. Thanks for (yet) another book to read! I finished the Boleyn book last night. Two solid days of reading 600 or so pages. Couldn't seem to put it down. I'll look for the book you mentioned when I return from vacation, since I have so many waiting in the wings.
I DO love Tudor history--having lived in England, it's one of my favorite times. Very dark, very mysterious. That a King could disassociate himself and country from the pope. An amazing feat for the time--probably a poor choice, come to think of it, but wow anyway!

I can't remember her name, but she was a Boleyn cousin who was one of Henry's wives. I think she was also beheaded-though I am not sure.
If you enjoy Tudor history, I really recommend Elizabeth the Great by Elizabeth oh crap I can't remember her last name. It is a BRILLIANT account of Elizabeth I down to the history of the Tudors and Boleyns. It's a wonderful book! I am a HUGE Tudor history fan!

They're actually sisters, Tasha--Mary and Anne. Unless something changes in the last portion of the book, I get the vibe that Mary never marries the king. It's written by Phillipa Gregory. It's well spun--I'm really enjoying the dialogue, and the wit, and development of characters.

Jonni, is The Other Boleyn Girl about Anne Boleyn's cousin who also married Henry VIII? Who si it by?

Best to ask Aunt Jenny, as she is the one who recommended it--from the synopsis, it's about a pioneer woman, love and stuff like that. I'm really looking forward to sitting on the beach with this one!
I started with The Other Boleyn Girl because I was in need of a 1500's England fix!

I agree! I love love love this store and there's one just around the corner! And if you want cheap books online, be sure to check out www.abebooks.com. Most of the time, I can find the book I'm looking for at $1 or $2 plus shipping!
