Just got this book at Joanne's, using my 40% off coupon. I love it. The author has taken diaries from ten women who lived through the Civil War and used parts of them in this book. Then with each page of writing there is a quilt pattern named to fit the circumstances of what is happening in the diary. I love the Civil War era and am always trying to find out what the women on the home front lived like.
So this book has given me info and something to think about. Funny, I am dreaming about the things in the book! Funny, huh?

A gal was just telling me yesterday about the Railroad Quilt book, sounds like one I might also like.
I am such a baby...I like pictures when I read a book. So this one is right down my alley. I do like to read, but give me a movie any day and I am happy...so very visual!
If I come across any more books like this I will post about them.
I have a copy of an old newspaper clipping about a female relative who lived during the Civil War. The article is her telling of some events that happened to her during this time. I think this article piqued my interest and it has had me hooked every since.
I have a few movies of Civil War era and I watch them all the time...but I want MORE! This is still an untouched area in Hollywood in my opinion. I know there have to be untold stories of this time in American History. And I think we could learn so much from what these ancestors endured. Their faith in God was strong. I so admire them.
Time for quilting...UGH...I used to have more time when my kids were little...but that we pre-home computer days!
Oh well, maybe I will live to be 200 years old and I can get it ALL done!

Angie..the book on that quilt is put out by "Quilt in a Day".....I found it at a quilt shop that was offering a block of the month class. I took the first class and then have just done them by myself. It is really a neat book if you can find it.

PAM, so cool! I have been looking for books on women in the Civil war myself! I strted reading the Elm Creek novels (recomended here of cours!) and that sort of piqued my interest in Civil War history from the Women's side and particularly if quilts are part of the stories! I cannot wait to go to Joanne's to buy the book. (with my 40% coupon of course!) We just drove home to WNY from Florida and came through VA and PA and I would love to go back and spend a week just 'doing' the Civil War sights etc. Let me know if you find any more books of the same topic! We can compare notes!
AUNT JENNY,just curious, where did you find your pattern for the Underground Railroad quilt? Were these quilts for real or is it just legend? Love to see a picture once it's done!
Bye ladies!
Angie.
