I'm unsure where to post this topic, but here among music & reading a seems appropriate. Many of my friends do not have access to a computer so we are relegated to communication by "snail mail" or heavens, the telephone! Do any of you farmgirls also appreciate the slow pace destined by the use of such outmoded forms of communication? I have had a pen-pal in another state now, going on 15+ years; we send letters regularly, also gifts at various times of the year. I often make hand-stamped & decorated cards and my own hand made-paper, to send to relatives and friends, chosing this as a form of soft anti-consumerism and commercialism, including bits of myself via poetry, re-used ribbons, etc. Just wondering if anyone else is interested in this dying art form (written communication).

Hi Cecelia,
I also like to write letters, although lately that seems to have become out of fashion, what with email and all. I have begun a tradition with my 3.5 year old grandaughter of writing her a letter once a week. She LOVES getting a letter in the mail from me! I also remember as a child going to the mailbox in anticipation of receiving a letter. As an adult I kept up correspondence with a woman who wrote the most enthusiastic letters to me! It was such a boost to receive her news. Unfortunately, as her health deteriorated, the letters seized and it was a big gap in my life. It's amazing how much encouragement one can get from receiving a letter from someone who deemed you worthy of the time it took to do it. You sound quite creative in your card and letter writing too! Good for you. Maybe we can redeem this lost art, ya suppose?
