Thought I'd start a category to chat about this magazine... I don't subscribe to this one anymore... but it jumped out at me from the rack today and I couldn't say no! haha...

In the Aug 2005 issue are several things that caught my eye! First of all, on the cover is my dream kitchen circa 1940's green and all! Love the old stove look too. (article on page 114)

Page 18 has the cutest (and expensive) "old" style bicycle in the grooviest colors! You'd make a statement with that one, for sure! (They do offer some less expensive options, and I imagine a creative person could paint one up for themselves!)

Page 33 has a feature on old stationwagons, circa the 1950's (take note Meadowlark! )

Page 74 has an article on felting, with instructions (page 136),on how to make a tote bag with this technique! MIght have to give this a go myself!

Other ideas to turn a shed into an escape cottage(how appealing!) and other nifty things.

Since it's so hot outside (101 today here), curling up with a good magazine sounds like the best remedy to me!

It was my favorite years and years (and years) ago. I still have some "vintage" issues that I love...BUT..most of the time now I really check it out and only buy the issues that really have appeal to me. I did buy the issue that Clare described though!! Good one!!!
I havn't found the COuntry home with MJ in it yet..maybe I can find time to go look for it tomorrow.
Randi...Yikes...I am so glad it isn't snakey here...they scare me so bad!!! Bama Suzy is always telling me about her snake sightings at her place and I would sure hate to go through that!!

LOve that old fashioned kitchen too on the cover!!!! The vintage style bike is soooo cool! Has me eyeing my old Schwinn in a new way...some bright enamel paints, a new set of pom poms for handlebars... and I could have something similar that the company that markets this bike wants $2,200 for!!!!! The old stationwagons were to die for! Found out a vintage "Woody" recently went for a cool 144,000. JEEPERS!!!!!!

Country Living used to be my absolute favorite magazine. But I'm not crazy about the direction that it has taken in the last year or so. I love Country Home and have any of you seen Cottage Living? It is wonderful and caters to "the rest of us".

I use to purchase this magazine all the time, however I found just too many advertisements in it the past few years and not near what it use to be. When I can, I try to pick it up at the library if the front cover interests me. I'll have to check out the Aug 2005 one.

Hey Clare, glad you started this thread, I love the magazine even though it has changed over the years like so many have, but thanks to the internet the prices of subscribtions have come down ALOT, only $12 a year for Country Living so I signed up after a few years off. I too like to dream about the kitchens and gardens and have stolen many neat ideas. Reading is usually a winter sport for me, but being 98 outside now, and higher temps coming, a good magazine and a glass of ice tea will get us through the heat wave in style!

I'm not 40 something, I'm 39.95 plus shipping and handling!
