I picked up a book in the library the other day by accident, or luck- and it was truly inspiring!
Probably this is old news to some of you, but I never heard of the Julie/Julia project until I saw the book.
This 20-something wanna-be actress in NYC whose biological clock is ticking, decides, in a fit of depression? rage? who knows?
to cook every recipe in Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" - 564 recipes, and she does it in a year. She blogs about the experience, and the book is the story behind the story. I loved it, and can't stop thinking about it!

Just got back from going to the movie w/ a girlfriend a little while ago and it's SO GREAT!!!!! Some seriously funny parts and just really charming. I highly recommend it!!!! Gather up your closest girlfriends and make it a "girl's night out" - grab some coffee or dinner and definitely make a point to see Julie and Julia! ;o) You'll be glad you did.

I went to the movie tonight, and it was everything I had hoped for. Meryl Streep nailed Julia Child, and there were many things in both Julie and Julia's story that paralelled my own life.
For example, I'm a blogger who often wonders if anyone reads my blog (I'm probably not nearly as good a writer as Julie) and am currently facing a crisis similar to the one Julia and her husband faced when looking forward to leaving France - Julia's "career" just taking off while he was facing a job change that would require him to relocate.
Both my husband and I will be relocating within the next year because of a plant closing, and who knows what the future will bring? I was touched by Julia's faith in her husband and their ability to keep on going, together, through the life changes.

I just read the book about a week ago. Can't wait to see the movie. The book, while a great read left me not really liking the main character Julie, but the trailers for the movie make her appear more nice, neat and lady-like. It will be interesting to see how they portray her.

I read "My Life in France" and was fascinated too! To top it all off, I discovered a Julia Childs cookbook in a box of old books from my aunt's house....too cool. I'm excited to give some of those recipes a try. I wonder if my DD's would go to the movie with me?

I'm reading the book and anticipating the movie - total foodie here...but the movie is also based on Julia Child's autobiography, My Life in France - I read that a couple of years ago, and she was definitely fascinating... |

This is so cool! I have the book, just haven't read it yet. And I can't WAIT to see the movie. Who doesn't love Meryl Streep??? She will be great as Julia. I remember she showed up at one of the big awards ceremony shows recently and she didn't bother to dress up, and she won! It took her completely by surprise but her sense of humor got her through. she just seems so down to earth. I'm going to join this on Facebook, thanks Brenda! I'm looking forward to seeing the movie too. I must admit though, I wasn't crazy about the book. The premise was great, but I think I went into it expecting the book to be about food and cooking and it wasn't really. It was more about the story of the main character's life, trials and tribulations etc, and it's only semi-auto-biographical, the author admits to making a lot of stuff up for more interesting content. I found it to be a bit disjointed too. That said, I did think the premise was fantastic and really look forward to see how they handled it as a movie, and with Meryl Streep and Amy Adams- should be good!

i can't wait for the movie! i havn't read the book yet, but want to. i also want to read julia child's book. i still watch her shows on PBS and remember growing up watching her as a kid! did you all know she used to be a spy? no joking! she's in the spy museum.... i saw it on anthony bourdain:no reservations

I didn't even know it was a book! I saw the trailer for the movie and was so excited about it. But I'd love to read the book, they're almost always better than the movies. Wish I had a bunch of farmgirls in the area who would go with me to see the movie. We could make it a girls night. That would be soooo much fun!

I can't wait for this movie to come out. I subscribed as a fan in Facebook and now I'm seeing clips once a day. It looks as good as the book, and I love Meryl Streep. She really makes a believable Julia Child!

I've gotten on a Julia Child, slow food kick since I read this book. I ordered one of her cookbooks (not the one in the book, but the one based on the TV show) and it arrived today - I can't wait.

Thanks for the recommendation. I've been making a point this summer of reading outside my comfort zone and, since I'm a mediocre cook at best, don't watch the cooking shows, etc., this would be something new. Plus, it sounds intriguing! I'll look for it before we head to Texas next week -- I wanted a good book to read in the car. Dh isn't much of a conversationalist while driving

Hi,
I read that book when it came out...I enjoyed it very much...she certainly has a flair for bringing the reader right into her world. I also enjoyed that she shared her experiences "warts and all" as they say!
