Posted - May 14 2007 : 06:58:33 AM I was just wondering how many of you have read Gone With the Wind. I am always amazed at the number of people who have never read it. I read it the summer between my eigth grade and ninth grade in school. That and The Thorn Birds have got to be at the top of my list of favorite books. Kathy

Posted - Jul 19 2007 : 6:27:55 PM Well, you have hit on a popular subject! I LOVE GWTW!!!!!!! Read it the first time in Jr. High and many times since. I have completely lost count of how many time I have seen it. Never tire of it or the Margaret Mitchell story that goes with it. I would NEVER read a sequel to GWTW unless it was written by Margaret Mitchell herself..........and we know that ain't gonna happen!!!!! What were they thinking by coming out with SCARLETT? If you haven't read it you are in for one good read!! Has anyone out there read anything by Diana Gabaldon? |

Posted - Jul 18 2007 : 09:48:45 AM Well, I finished GWTW last week! It was sad to finish it since I enjoyed the characters so much and wanted more! This summer vacation will always be remembered as the GWTW summer.
Now I am reading A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN. Talk about another book with strong women and girls who will always survive! Totally different setting, but excellent as a follow-up book to GWTW even if they do not seem to be alike at first. |

Posted - Jun 27 2007 : 1:44:16 PM I started GWTW today while sitting at the river. So far I already love it. Finished ENDLESS CHAIN by Emilie Richards this morning...WOW!! Cannot wait to read the next one of that series. |

Posted - Jun 26 2007 : 6:21:36 PM GWTW in one of my favorite books. My mom gave me the paperback when I was about 12 and I've read it so many times, it has fallen apart. The first time I saw the movie was also with my mom. Great memories!

Posted - Jun 25 2007 : 7:58:24 PM I LOVE both Gone With The Wind and The Thornbirds. I have read both and seen the movie and miniseries a million times. Jenny, I wonder if I could track down a copy of the miniseries for you. As it is Australian, I know our local library has a copy on video and I may be able to find it in a second hand shop here - do you have a video? (Hubby got rid of ours - he loves DVDs!) Another great Aussie romance is All The Rivers Run by Nancy Cato. It is about the paddle steamers that used to go up and down the Murray River with cargo in the 1800s. Best wishes all, Jayne |

Posted - Jun 25 2007 : 4:53:19 PM I read the book first then saw the movie. It was re-released in our town in 1971. We stood in a line that circled around the building into the parking lot just to see that movie. I have seen it countless times through the years. My daughter fell in love with the book and movie in jr. high. We watch it together if it comes on. Its the perfect movie to watch on a rainy or snowy day when you can't get out. My daughter loves Mammy and can recite her more memorable phrases and its hilarious. I done tol ya an tol ya! Mr. Rhett, you so bad! Mammy was the star of that movie. I also read the Thornbirds before I saw the movie and it makes it so much easier to follow along. Both movies are at the top of my favorites list. |

Posted - May 23 2007 : 11:01:04 PM This is my favorite book and movie. Have read it many times and seen the movie at least 20 times. When I was in high school (before cable TV, VCR's, or DVD players) the movie was re-released in the theatres -- think it was 1968 or 1969. I went to see it 4 times -- it was great!

Posted - May 23 2007 : 4:20:33 PM I have seen the movie many times, but have never read the book. Maybe that will be a summer thing. I have not seen the movie in years, so at least it will seem sort of fresh when I read it. |

Posted - May 16 2007 : 6:16:14 PM I have read the book 5 times. 5 times! Isn't that silly? I just love it. I was pleasently surprised way back when we were first married. My DH always thought of it as a girly movie and had never watched it. He finally did and now counts it as one of his favorites. Lindy

Posted - May 15 2007 : 1:26:49 PM I've read it (not sure how many times) and seen the movie (upteen times) as well. In Georgia, there's a museum with all kinds of memorabilia from the movie. We saw the exhibt at Stone Mountain before the museum opened about five years ago. Pretty neat.

Posted - May 14 2007 : 5:53:20 PM Oh my, Kathy! Soo glad to see this. This is my favorite of all time...I am a big civil war fan all the way around due to this book. I have my own copy, have the movie and the soundtrack, a doll with changeable clothes...I just can't get enough. For me whenever I feel in a pity moment in my life, I read or watch the movie. To see Scarletts strenght, even with the not so nice things she does, it gives me the courage to take another step on. "I'll think about that tomorrow" kinda thing. Glad to see others share this favorite.

Posted - May 14 2007 : 11:30:54 AM Oh Kathy! I read the book for the first time last summer!! I had watched the movie, and remembered my MIL had given me her extra copy of the book. I was just enthralled! The details and story lines that of course they couldn't put into the movie are just so great a read!
