I am reading this book "If You Lived Here, I'd Know Your Name" and it is great. Not a big book, but very interesting and a quick read. It is about a lady who lives in Alaska with her family. I am sure this book was probably mentioned somewhere before but I couldn't find it. And if you haven't read it, anyone who likes to read about rural life, should read it.

May God bless those who love the soil,

Patsy

I read this book a while back and it's still by my bed. Wonderful! Since then, I've subscribed to adn.com for daily updates from Alaska Daily News. Heather Lende writes a column every Thursday, but all are archived. I let several build up, then sit and read several at a time. Her columns are in the "life" section.

Absolutely a wonderful book! I tried to send it to Cheryl from another book thread, but it never got to her! I got the empty package back from some post office in Seattle that said it was lost in the mail. I hope someone is enjoying it. I wish she would write more books.

Haines Alaska, Heather Linde. It is a good book, really gives you a feel about Alaska that I think is difficult to obtain from other sources about Alaska....... jo

She also has been a contributor on NPR. We had a thread on this book ahile ago, but if you like to get the feel of a place and it's people she does a great job letting you "see" her community. I will warn you.. she wrote obituaries and the book is a collection of them with additional narrative about people and place. Very unusual, but a book that stays with you. I have passed it on to someone else or I would offer my copy!

It was writen about 2 years ago and like the week before it was set to be released she was hit by a truck riding her bike. She was injured very very badly but has since recoverd. (i worked at a book store at the time and it was a big deal) it is a very good book. She also used to right a colume in the anchorage daily news. I am not sure if she still does or not.

Michele,
It is written by Heather Lende. I don't think it is recent.

sounds like I'd love it. Who is the author? Is it recent? I'm not familiar w/ it but would read it.
