Posted - Mar 16 2015 : 1:14:18 PM My neighbors' niece was in a very serious car accident when she was a small child. It was unknown if she would even survive because of serious head injuries. When she did recover she was left with paralysis of one side of her face. You may know stroke survivors who had similar problems. Audrey is now about 20 years old, she has grown to be a sweet, bright person, but is quite shy. She moved here with her aunt and uncle to try to find a job. Within the last year she found out about a surgery available now at Mayo Clinic that could help her. A couple of weeks ago she went through a 15 hour surgery!!, transplanting muscles into her face and working on nerves. The prognosis is 6 months until feeling may return and a year of continued recovery. Please keep her in your prayers! Susan

Posted - Mar 18 2015 : 2:54:27 PM I got to visit with Audrey a few minutes yesterday, she is so glad to feel more like herself after surgery. Long surgery takes a toll even on a young person. Her face is still a bit swollen but returning to normal. I may be imagining it but think it already looks better around her right eye. She is walking a couple of miles a day, not the running she usually does, but was told to take it a bit easy. She has a post-op check-up on March 24th. Susan
