I don't have Facebook, and I really don't want to talk directly to anyone, but I need to get this out. I'm home sick for the first time in YEARS! My hubby is Air Force. When we married we lived about 15 minutes from my family and a couple hours from his. Then, almost ten years ago, the military moved us down here. At first I hated it, but over time I adjusted. My younger sister just had her third baby today, and I just cried. I want to be there so bad. When she had her first, we went up there. When she had her second, they came down here. But this one I won't get to meet for another couple months - when I go to have surgery in that area. I miss my sister. I miss the closeness. I hate the fact that our children will not grow up together. When hubby retires, we plan to move out west.... days away from them. How much worse will it be then? How do I get rid of this heart wrenching heaviness? How do I stop the tears? My life feels like it is falling apart already, and maybe that is why this is hitting so hard. I find myself turning to food for comfort and the stiffest drink I can have - soda ;) (I'm nursing, so no alcohol here - a definite blessing at the moment). To top it off, my baby will be a year the end of this month. I can feel my hormone levels going wonkers. I often hit post partum blues at about this point. All in all, your prayers are much coveted!!!

Thank you all! I am doing much better now - I've talked with both of my sisters and one of my younger brothers, so that has helped. We'll see much of the family when we go for my surgery, hopefully the end of August or beginning of September.

Nini, I grew up away from extended family 75% of my life, I'd say. I lived in 5 states and 32 houses before I graduated HS. What you just stated, that's how I always felt!!! Thanks for posting it!

Shannon, it's okay. It'll be all right. ((BIG HUGS)) It's very, very hard to be away from our loved ones, I know; especially when we want so badly for our children to really get to know their wonderful family and have more family memories to cherish than they do. Especially when we yearn so badly for that for ourselves, too. But you know, I've learned that it's not always about quantity; it's the quality time that matters. My family and I don't get to see each other nearly as often as we'd like, but when we do, the memories made are worthy of the finest scrapbooks. The kids all love each other, and even though they may see each other once or twice every few years, when they do get together, it's as if they never separated. The laughter, the fun, the heartfelt talks, the tears - everything freely flows and there is such harmony and joy in finally being together. It's amazing. I know that it will be the same for you and your family. It really will be okay. You DO have my prayers, sister. I remember how hard it was leaving everyone I knew and loved to relocate here to PA with my husband. Oh, the hot tears that flowed! Things have a way of working out, though. Just always remember: ALL things work together for the good of those who love Him! (c.f. Romans 8:28) If it's important to you, it's important to Him, and because He loves you, rest assured: He will surely make a way! Hugs - Nini

Shannon, I think many of us felt the weight of our situations when our children were small and we were very tied down in our own lives. When we feel overwhelmed ourselves, I think the feelings of loss of family only intensify our loneliness. The solution to move back close to your family may not be viable given your husband's work at present unless you are able to take yourself and kids and rent a place for the summer months as a sort of vacation situation. If you feel the need to be home for awhile to sort through your emotions, then perhaps some sort of rental would work. If not, then perhaps talking with a professional counselor for a few times would give you some insight as to why this nagging heaviness is making you feel without solutions. The "self medicating" with food is your clue that you need some help to sort through some issues that are presently all coming together in the perfect storm. When we find ourselves "in the forest", we definitely "cannot see the trees". Be kind to yourself, get some help, and know that you are not alone in finding yourself in this particular situation. I hope you will find some peace and a solution that is good for you very soon! I am joint the others in keeping you in my prayers for a positive resolution.

Shannon...praying that God will give you peace in this situation...I truly believe that we must take things one day at a time and allow God to work things out the way He sees is best for us...I know this is not an easy thing to do...to wait on God...but sometimes we just have to ask Him to help us to take a step back from the situation and ask for his peace and guidance...

Hugs!
