Hello my dearest Farmgirl sisters! Our family needs your prayers!!! We are being attacked from numerous angles right now and we are starting to get weary! Medical issues are abounding. Behavioral issues are intensifying. Our family is starting to fall apart at the seams. Our family doctor, who we love, has recommended that we put our children in public school to give me a break/respite and let other people deal with some of the issues - this goes against our beliefs of what we think God wants us to do.... but it shows how bad things are. My blood pressure is back up to stroke level, though I am on two blood pressure medications.

To give you a run down: My almost 9 month old is not gaining weight very well, but refuses to eat from any other source except nurse - she won't even take a bottle of breast milk. My two year is constantly in everything. My 5 year old needs speech, physical and occupational therapy - probably all stemming from a severe reaction to vaccinations when she was an infant. My 6 year old has been lying. My 8 yo is borderline autistic and aspergers. He has violent tendencies, lies, is quickly "set off," etc. My 10 yo is trying to be the "other momma." My hubby needs another back surgery, and has other medical issues. He is working 12+ hours a day for the military and yet we barely have enough money to make ends meet. In addition, he is working on his master's degree. Me - I need surgery for my adrenal gland but cannot get it until the almost 9 month old can eat other foods, as the hospital will not let her stay with me. I barely have the energy to keep up with everything right now and part of that is all the additional stress. I feel like I am failing in every aspect of my life. My husband and I barely have any time together. We are more roommates in the same house, rather than husband and wife. I'm getting more and more depressed as each day passes.

Please please pray!!!!!

~ Shannon

Dear Shannon,
If you are still considering taking a break from homeschooling, I'd like to echo Jenny's comments about public schools, I retired as a teacher after 35 years and know that some people moved their kids in and out of homeschooling, sometimes in a crisis, sometimes when they were unsure of their decision. Kids are accepted and welcomed and adapt to a different learning system. It is the relationship with a good teacher that helps with the process. If your reasons for home schooling include religious training that can still be done at home. If it is behavioral issues, sometimes an experienced teacher or enthusiastic young one knows some methods, or tricks that you might not, that can really help.

It sounds like some things are improving though your health is the biggest issue right now. That has to be dealt with. I pray that your doctor gets this figured out SOON!

I pray things can improve soon with your husband. Your depression may be a big part of the problem and sometimes people(husbands) just shut down emotionally, knowing he as been under stress as well since you have been. It's hard to handle life's problems as a team when there are walls. We have gone through some tougher times but our relationship is stronger long term after getting through them. I have a theory that our men, who are physically stronger are not that way emotionally and need us more than they ever let on. Be patient with him, your biggest kid.
Hugs,
Susan

I received a call from my doctor yesterday. Apparently my potassium is still not where it should be, so they are increasing my daily amount. I am to see her again today, so we will see how bad it really is.

Things with my children depend non the day. The youngest three have been sick this week, so that has been a little more stressful, but the older three have been doing better.

Things with hubby are not going nearly as well. Honestly, things just keep getting worse. I am hoping we can soon have. Date night, even if that means putting the kids to bed and us staying up a bit. We celebrate twelve years of marriage on the fifth. Yet it feels like we are emotionally divorced :(

Thank you for your prayers through this valley. Without those, and God carrying me through these times, I know my depression would be much worse! I look forward to the day when my adrenal gland is removed, so I can deal with stressful situations so much better! (your adrenal glands are in charge of you fight and flight mechanism)

First of all big farmgirl double arm hugs! I'm always the nerdy practical one, but have you thought of finding a couple of other like minded home school mom's and setting up a sanity break schedule?? I don't have kids, but I often give sanity relief for a few other friends that do. There is something to be said about a deep breath, a cup of tea and a moment of spiritual contemplation. Also, having some one that you trust take on the kids every once in a while so that you and your poor over worked guy can have a date night is a life saver and does wonders at recharging your marriage's batteries. No one is an island. Your health is vital to your family and you have to be healthy to take care of it. You have incredible faith and I know that it will help you move mountains, but goodness lady, you don't have to move them alone!!! I know I'm one of the "The lord helps them that help them selves" sort, but please be good to your self.

Love to you, Shannon, and lifting you and your family up in my prayers. Sister, you have a strong faith - it's even strong enough when you're feeling so pulled apart at the seams. Trust Him to lead you through. The one thing that helps me most when I'm going through such a trial is just to pray and not make a move until He opens the doors for me. Trust your instincts, believe in yourself, and most importantly trust in and believe in Him! He loves you and your family so, so much. He will make a way! He WILL make a way! Big hugs - Nini

Just sending you my love and prayers.
Sometimes it's tough to let go and trust others to help us...I think you may need a little help with these
situations. If things don't work out then you can always go back to what you were doing.
I am a public school teacher who has had several students come into public school at the beginning
of middle school from homeschooling. Their parents were nervous and unsure, but now the students are so much a part of
our school- I don't know what we'd do without them. They surely add such positive energy to our school.
Ultimately you'll do what God puts in your heart. God bless you.

Shannon, I am so sorry that you are dealing with so many issues. You must be very overwhelmed. I am asking the Lord to just bring you peace in your heart and the wisdom needed in dealing with your children as well as healing for your whole family. I am thankful that your church can help you, that is what the church is there for.

Shannon, I will be praying for you and your family. I pray too that your church family will be able to help. I've seen so many people rally around others to ease burdens. Hugs.

Shannon,
You have been in my thoughts and prayers since I read this post hours ago. Your family doctor , who you obviously trust as well as love has suggested allowing others to help in this tough time.
Many of us have heard "When Mom is happy, the family is happy." But believe me "When Mom is overwhelmed, exhausted, and/or ill, the family will also have problems." If you believe God wants you to homeschool, remember your health makes that possible. You CAN NOT homeschool from a hospital bed. Take care of your health! Children can be resilliant and you are not the only one that can help them with the tasks. For now you need help.

Hugs,
Susan

Thank you ladies so much for your prayers! I have spent this morning e-mailing our pastor back and forth. We are trying to figure out what actions need to be taken. Most days do not seem nearly as overwhelming as yesterday did - perhaps because I was passing a kidney stone and my three youngest children were fighting stomach bugs o.O I am doing better today, though there are still all those items filling - or rather overfilling - our plate. We have an incredible church, so I am praying with the pastor's help we can enlist the help we need. I know there are some teenagers in the church that have graduated high school and are waiting to see where God leads them - I may enlist their services in the near future! Overall, thank you so much for your prayers and support <3

Shannon,
So sorry to hear you're so overwhelmed! I am praying for you and your family. I know it seems like God wants you to do everything, but I believe that He wants you to take care of yourself and your family. That might mean that you need to have someone come help you or that maybe you need to put one or all of your children into school for a little bit. God doesn't want you to suffer through this alone. I'll be praying that he provides you a clear path for you and your family to follow so that you are all able to get what you need. Hang in there.
Big Hugs!!

Shannon...my heart goes out to you...I can see how you are feeling so overwhelmed...your plate is definitely run over with so much going on...I would never try to tell you what to do...but as you said...you do need help...and for the time being public school if you cannot find or afford a Christian school would be of great assistance to you...they are supposed to help you with any needs your children have if they have been diagnosed with any type of learning disability...please contact the Special Education Director at your local Board of Education to get further information of what assistance they offer in the public school setting...if I am wrong about this information...please someone correct me and give Shannon the correct information...it appears that stress alone is taking a great toll on your family...you are in my thoughts and prayers and I will request that others pray for you...

Hugs!
