Please remember all the families and friends who were affected by the 9/11 tragedy. Even though so many years have gone by...to some it is as if were yesterday...please keep these dear people in your thoughts and prayers...

I remember...I was a new mom, my daughter not yet a year. I was at work
and she was home with her dad. I was quietly told in the middle of teaching
a class and I asked to be excused to use the phone. I called home and my
husband answered sleepily. I explained what I was told and he said he couldn't
change the channel to see the news coverage because our daughter was watching
Barney. At that moment, I remember thinking how blessed I felt knowing my
family was safe, but how deeply hurt I was for those who were just beginning
to search for their loved ones. I felt so unsafe. I've never felt like that before.
I am so thankful for brave Americans who serve our country in the all ways
that they do.
My family visited the 9/11 Memorial this summer and all I can say is I felt like
I was walking on ground that was floating above reality. It was surreal.
I can't pretend to know the reasons behind a tragedy like this. I trust that God
has us in His hands.

Thank you Cindy for telling about those sites, I haven't been able to go but I do appreciate hearing about it.
It is sobering, one of the people who was on the plane that stopped the terrorists was from where I live...Thank you for letting us know.

It does not seem possible that it has been 12 years, but indeed it has.
I have had the sobering experience of visiting each of the sites, and it is so very different but oddly similar to visiting something like a Civil War battlefield. You can actually feel the souls of those who died there, and be overwhelmed at the thought of how drastically the lives of those who did not perish and the families of those who did changed in a matter of a few short hours. Walking through Gettysburg you feel the death that happened all around, and while terribly serious it seems a bit less harsh because of time. The newness of the 9/11 sites is something that slaps you in the face a few times - it is really jarring.
The NYC site is horrible in its size and the images burned in to all of our memories forever.
The Pentagon is so very touching in the almost personal nature of the memorial chapel, but to walk the halls with a military escort stopping at a certain point to explain "this is as far in as the nose of the plane came" and you are pretty deep in hallway is just shocking. To watch the number of people roaming those halls conducting their business on an average day with the reminder that a portion of the area hit by the plane was undergoing renovations or the death toll would have been so much higher is also shocking.
Shanksville is the most incredible site to me, trying to imagine what those brave people went through making the selfless decision to sacrifice themselves sooner rather than let the terrorists possibly hit a predetermined,populated target. That is the bravest decision I have ever known in my life, and hearing their family members later say they were not at all surprised of the decision their dearly departed made because of that person's love of God and country helped restore many people's faith in what appeared to be an almost irreparably fractured society. Anyone who can possibly get to this site should visit it. The word "awesome" seems tired and trite due to its overuse for things that do not come close to fitting the definition, but this place is truly awesome and will touch your heart like nothing else possibly could.
A slight variation on the above noted "home of the free and the brave", I especially like the reminder "home of the free because of the brave". |

When I woke up this morning and went into the kitchen I looked at the calender and it dawned on me what day it was. Yes it has been many years but at the same time it seems like yesterday. I will be thinking of all those who lost there lives that day and praying for the families that are here today that have lost loved ones. Peace and prayers to them all.

My husband lost his cousin in the second trade tower on 9/11. Her parents were devastated and fell completely apart. She was their only child and the glue that held them together. Even though it has been 12 years, they and the rest of the family feel like it just happened.
We are praying for all those who are suffering from this tragedy and will continue to do so for a lifetime. We pray too that this will never happen again.
