Hi girls -

Okay, so Dad is home and doing much better, thank God. But now we're facing another health crisis in the family. Long story short, this summer my brother was diagnosed with Acromegaly, and shortly thereafter they found that he has a 6.5 mm pituitary micro adenoma - is a benign tumor surrounding his pituitary gland. The doctor presented him with less than desirable options, but strongly feels that he is a good candidate for surgery. Once removed, the effects that he has already suffered with the disease will remain (HUGE baseball-gloved size hands, facial changes to make him look like that character in the movie, "Sling Blade," and many other problems that are internal and not as easily noticeable, but nevertheless painful or inhibitive), but they will not get any worse, praise God! The problem is that the tumor is literally resting on the main artery to the brain (carotid?), and with one tiny knick, my brother will lose his life. If they don't do the surgery, however, his life expectancy isn't very long, either. Originally, he was supposed to have the surgery last October, but there were scheduling issues with the hospital, so they moved it up again to late November. Then the doctor had a scheduling conflict arise. Since this doctor is supposedly THE doctor to perform this surgery, they put it off again. So now, my brother's going in for surgery on the 25th of this month. He loves the Lord dearly, and he trusts Him. We all do. But this is my baby brother we're talking about, so I'm pretty stressed over the whole thing. I know I shouldn't be - I should trust the Lord completely. I do. But... Yes, I know there shouldn't be any "but's," either, but I can't help it. I don't think I will rest easy until it's over and he's home recuperating. He's only 43 years old, he has a wonderful wife, six adorable children, and we all just love him - we all just NEED him. He is, and has always been, one of my most favorite people in the whole wide world. So I'm naturally concerned and stressed over the whole thing. It's scarey, that's all. So, if you would please keep my brother Harry in your prayers, I would really, really appreciate it. :) I know it's still a little early in the month before he has to go in, but I think it would be a good thing for us to get a head start on the prayers. It's a worried sister thing. :)

On a positive note, I have received emails from quite a few friends over the past couple of months, including our dear sister Ruthie (Violetrose), who have known people who have had to have this surgery and they have all had better than anticipated outcomes. It's such a blessing to hear that and to know that others have come through just fine! That's what I'm trusting God for with my brother, too!

Thanks so much, girls. I'll keep you posted, for sure!

Hugs,

Nini

Hi girls!!!

'Just want to give you all a quick - happy - little update! :) My brother emailed this morning. He's doing better. Still feels very weak, but that is to be expected. He hasn't had to take pain medicine in two days! SUCH a blessing! He said their main concern is that his pituitary still works properly, and they will be monitoring that over the next few weeks. He sounded pretty chipper in his email. I'm so thankful and relieved! Thank you all so very much for your prayers!!!

Amen! What a wonderful God we have. Wow! He is so amazing. Love Him.

Will continue to pray for a speedy recovery. Now it is time for all of you to also get some rest. The Lord is with him and will continue to be so. Remember He doesn't bring us to it, if He doesn't plan to see us through it.

Hugs to all and a very special hug to your baby brother. How lucky he is to have you for his sister.

Many blessings to all of your family.

Thank you SO much, girls!

Good news! He's in recovery - all went beautifully - the doctor got it all - no more treatment - overnight in ICU - tomorrow should be in a regular room - he should be home Sunday in time for the Superbowl, which he's thrilled about (BIG Ravens fan!). :) They can't see him for another hour, but they are looking forward to it. Mom says as soon as she gets home she'll be sleeping for the next 20 hours. LOL! I think I will, too.

So, for now, I guess this means the Acromegaly is "cured." Although all the changes he has undergone cannot be reversed, the removal of the tumor will end any more progress of the disease. Praise God! My baby brother is going to be okay! Thank God for my foster daughter, who recognized the symptoms and urged him to go see the doctor last summer. God is good, He is so good, and merciful and really does work behind the scenes on our behalf, working all things together for the good of those who love Him! Praised be His Holy Name forever and ever! AMEN!

Oh, I'm just so relieved. Thanks so much for your prayers. I'll let you know if there's anything else to report. Right now, I'm going to take a nap - I need it! LOL!

Thanks, Lisa, SO much!

Well, my Mom just called... He's still in surgery. The information up on the board says he is anticipated to be out of surgery at 2:30, so we're hoping it won't be too much longer. I spoke with my sister earlier - who lives out near Denver - and she agrees with me that being so far away is miserable, but we know it's always the waiting that is the hardest. The doctor had told him that if it was an "nice, clean" surgery where the tumor was in a neat little ball, it would be pretty easy to remove and that he'd be out in about four hours, but if it was more complicated, where the doctor would have to "peel" the tumor away in layers like an onion, that it could take as long as up to 6:30 PM tonight. Well, the four hour mark passed at 11:30, so... My sister is really, really upset, but my Mom sounded very good, which was very encouraging to me (My Mom is just really good like that!). My sister-in-law is doing very well, very much at peace with all of this, as her faith is very, very strong like my brother's. Thankfully some of their close friends are able to be there, so there are six of them waiting together and passing the time playing games and easing each other's minds. It's such a hard thing to have to wait, but hopefully we'll know more soon. I'll keep you all posted, I promise. Thank you so much for your prayers. Hugs - Nini
