Posted - Mar 10 2012 : 09:46:03 AM Update: while the final results are not yet in--it seems to be gastritis. *deep sigh of relief* They would like him to come in for an ultrasound, but he wants to hear the remaining test results first. I guess I don't blame him!
They have him an acid-reducer, and the pain is totally gone! Thanks so much for the prayers, farmgirls!
Earlier in the week, I posted how Ric had a panic attack with a lot of vomiting, etc. This is nothing new for him, but this time...it was different. Ever since then, he's complained of pain on his right side and just below his ribs. I checked, and there was a noticeable swelling. Well, he tried a laxative (he hadn't "gone" in a few days) and found temporary relief. The swelling went down, and he was "regular" again. Last night though, the pain came back so badly that he was in tears. We ended up going to the nearest Urgent Care center about quarter after seven pm. It was quarter to nine before we walked out of there.
They...don't really know. We have to wait for test results to come back, but they suspect a blocked duct in either gallbladder or pancreas (I suppose the latter would have to be referred pain since I think it's on the other side).
Naturally, I got the fun job of keeping his mom updated while they were running tests, and she was actually civil. I think being terrified helped with that. (Of course, it was all about HER and HER SON, I'm just someone there to help him....)
Also, he wanted some changes in his medication because he doesn't feel that the one he is on is working very well anymore--and they told him, "Until we figure out what's causing that pain, anything else runs the risk of making you even worse." Oh goody.
On the positive side, his appetite is great. He hasn't been drinking, and he's been really positive about the whole thing. "Well, at least we know it's not my liver!" he said on the way home, and he was actually quite cheerful. We ate dinner, worked on a jigsaw puzzle, and watched a movie (after a recurrence of the pain and swelling made puzzle-ing impossible). He was even calm and cheerful enough to fix a problem with the television without getting upset. If he hadn't been in obvious pain, it would have been a perfect evening!
He was finally able to get some sleep last night, and this morning he said he was feeling a bit better. Still...prayers, please? Thanks so much, my sisters!

Posted - Mar 12 2012 : 08:06:27 AM If it turns out to be gallbladder, well...I don't think there's any scientific data to back this up, but I've heard chronic stress can lead to gallbladder disease. My husband had to have his gallbladder out in an emergency surgery right before his college graduation. Between the mom, the panic attacks, and the employment difficulties, I'd say Ric has stress and then some. I hope this gets straightened out and cleared up soon. |

Posted - Mar 11 2012 : 10:16:55 AM Thank you all so much! Rachel, thank you; shows you what I don't know about anatomy. ![](icons/icon_smile_wink.gif)
He took some ranitidine and is feeling much better, so he thinks it was just his GI tract. Personally, I will be worried until we get the actual test results.
If it turns out to be gastritis--fine, I can do that, I've had gastritis myself for years. It's nothing new. Pancreas or gallbladder are both new and scary territory.
Now if he would just not jump right back into everything as soon as he starts feeling better! (Besides, he just rearranged the stupid closet; he doesn't need to do it again. )

Posted - Mar 10 2012 : 10:09:32 AM That sucks, pancreatitis is horrible (DH has "acute recurrent pancreatitis" but it is more chronic these days)Pancreatic pain is right sided, it's behind the stomach and nestled in the small intestine..it is on the left and right sort of, but DH's pain is always right sided and when it's really bad it makes his back hurt alot. Hopefully, if it is pancreatitis, they can determine the cause and you can get a hold on it. Hope he feels better.
