I'm shaking as I write this, but I just needed to know that you are all out there praying for this:

My husband just left with our oldest daughter (9) for the ER. She's been home sick since Friday with some sort of stomach bug and I thought today she was getting better. She was sleeping on the couch here in our family room when I suddenly noticed the pillow under her head looked bloody and wet. I thought it was a nose bleed, so I woke her up and discovered and some sort of bloody fluid was actually streaming out her ear. My husband immediately bundled her up, I grabbed our emergency to-go bag and he took off for the nearest pediatric ER - about 20 min away.

I'm really scared, and I know she didn't poke something in her ear - she just isn't that kind of kid.

I was down on my knees praying it's nothing and my husband gives me some good news, soon. I would appreciate if all of you could say a prayer that she's ok. She's just the most wonderful daughter and big sister. All three of her little sisters were just distraught when they left and she was so frightened, but she kept trying to tell them not to be afraid. She's so sweet.

Lots of prayers! I had a ruptured eardrum as a child (sinus/ear infection), so I feel her pain. Let me know if you need any "survivor's tips."

Thank you, everyone, for your prayers, hugs and good wishes - they all mean the world to us.

She got a decent night's sleep last night (after they got back late) and had IV fluids and antibiotics in the ER last night. Her ear is still "leaking," but she's had two cups of herbal tea with honey and some whole grain toast this morning, which is more than she's had at one sitting in days. I can't tell all of you how relieved I am that she's going to be alright. I had never heard an eardrum just bursting like that the amount of blood and fluid that came out was terrifying. I am so sorry for all you other moms who experienced this very thing with your little ones - it's panic-inducing.

@ Nicole - you said it correctly - no matter how big they get, they are always our babies, aren't they?

Thank you again, everybody, for all the Farmgirl love. It is a great help.

Oh, Suzanne, I just saw this post--I'm glad to hear it wasn't something more serious, but believe me, I know how frightened you were--and I so happy that she's home safe and sound. When Violet was 1.5, the wee girl had been cranky, crying, feeling poorly and "just not herself" for about a week. No signs of the "usual" ear infection symptoms. We finally went to the Dr to be told, "I think it's just a cold, we won't do anything right now..." and 24 hours later, we were in the ER at Children's Hospital because her eardrum burst and blood and puss came rushing down like a waterfall when I was putting her into the car in her car seat. Standing in the E.R. for two hours with that baby girl screaming, tears running down her face made me just go weak.

Take care of that girl and let her know we're thinking of her! And you!

A Big Momma Hug is just what she needs Suzanne, thank God she will be fine and has antibiotics to help her heal and feel better. Along with lots of TLC from her family.
Will continue my prayers so she can rest comfortably and heal.

Suzanne,
I am sorry I did not see this until now. How frightening for you and your baby! (My DD is nine, too, but she'll always be my baby)!

I am so glad she is okay, and that all of the prayers were answered. Sending you both a big, virtual

Thank you, thank you, thank you everyone for your prayers. I really felt your prayers and I can never express how much it means to me.

My husband finally called me from the ER and gave me the update and I can't tell you the relief that flooded through me. She indeed blew an eardrum (as bad as that is, the other possible causes of her symptoms were so serious I could barely function thinking about it). The doctor said all the throwing up from her stomach bug must have caused post nasal drip to be driven into her ear very rapidly and then blew with such force that she broke blood vessels. The poor thing. The doctor said the ear drum will heal and her hearing should not be affected, but she has to be on antibiotics for almost two weeks. Her ear is also likely to drain like this for several days.

I was panicked because last year, in a nearby school district, several children came down with meningitis and died, and one of the symptoms was leaking cerebral spinal fluid out the ears and nose. I was terrified that this was what was happening. I thank God this was not the case.

I know your prayers helped. I love all you Farmgirls. Thank you for supporting a panicked mama. I can't wait until my husband comes home with her. Just want to hold her.

Suzanne-
Just saw this post and I am praying for your dear daughter and for her sisters and of course you and your husband. As the others have said- I too have experienced this- my daughter had a severe ear infection and her eardrum burst in the night. She never once complained of pain or had any symptoms. She recovered 100% from it, but boy was it scary.
Please keep us posted when you can.
Hugs,

~Laurie

Suzanne prayers for your daughter. That happened one time to my son when he was about 7 years old. He had a ruptured ear drum from an ear infection. His ear drained with bloody looking liquid for about a week. He was really sick with it. But he did finally heal up and as far as I know it did not effect his hearing. He is now 29 yrs. old. Hope all goes well for your daughter.

I'm praying. Hopefully it's something as simple as a burst ear drum. Not fun but not dangerous. Stay calm Momma, lean on the everlasting arms and feel the prayers.

Excuse the mess & the noise, my children are making happy memories
