I'm asking for prayers for my sweetheart please. He was diagnosed last November with prostate cancer but was told he had some time to make a decision about treatment. With my mom being so ill at that time with ovarian cancer he put off treatment or making a decision but now has settled on radiation and he begins his treatments this afternoon. 40 treatments over the next several wks. One each day Monday thru Friday until done. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Also prayers he quits smoking too please......grrrr on this one LOL Thanks so much!!

Thank you so much Rosemary, Marly, CJ, and Penny for your prayers, hints and friendship. It means a great deal to both my hubby and myself. So far he continues to do well. Still has his sense of humor and teases the nurses daily. Yes Rosemary prostate cancer is very treatable. Initially the drs. recommended removal due to my husband's young age but he didn't want invasive surgery so hoping his decision for radiation will be enough to keep him healthy. I know God and prayers can do much and so I have faith God will care for him. Thanks to all for their continued prayers. You gals rock!

It's my understanding that prostate cancer responds very well to treatment. I know three men of varying ages who've beaten it. If your husband gets "sunburned" from the radiation, you might want to get him some Domeboro Solution pads at the drug store. They're safe and very soothing. My mother's visiting nurse recommended them when she was getting treatments from a different kind of cancer many years ago. Of course, there might be something even better now, but I thought I'd mention it.

Cheryl,

I am praying too! I have wondered where you have been and it sounds like you have had so much going on. I am praying for strength and comfort for you in addition to healing for your husband and the self control he needs to stop smoking. He is probably so worried that smoking is his way of release. A friend of ours father was diagnosed with prostate cancer 12 years ago, he is doing fine now (and he was given a short time span). God can do anything!

Thank you Annika and yes we're trying to stay upbeat and keep very positive about this. So many have told my husband about men they knew who battled this type and all had positive outcomes and very few side effects. It helps everytime he hears this and I told him last night that the farmgirls are praying for him and he asked me to thank you all :) He tells me everyone at the cancer center is very nice and he got thru his first treatment just fine. Another today and think now that he's got one under his belt (no pun intended) he feels more comfortable about the whole procedure. Thank you all so much for your well wishes and prayers. We appreciate them greatly!
Hugs!

My dad had prostrate cancer in his early 60s and is doing pretty darned good in his 80's now. The worst side effects that my family members who have had cancers have suffered were nausea, extreme fatigue, loss of appetite, loss of sense of smell and taste. So my sister and I have worked extra hard with my dad, a three time cancer survivor, when he was going through chemo to cook and serve him really tasty small meals several times a day and make him take frequent rest breaks.

Keep a positive attitude and enjoy life around the cancer as much as possible.

Big HUGS!

Thank you all so much ladies! I'm babysitting my grandson today and DH didn't want me to come with him. So I'm doing a little nail biting and wishing I was there even if I couldn't go in. But as he said 40 treatments is going to take awhile and he'll be just fine. I had hoped the cancer would scare him into quitting right away but no such luck. I'm hoping he does well and has no side effects. We've heard very positive things about treatments these days. We so appreciate your prayers. Thanks again! Huggzz to all :)

Cheryl, this sounds exactly like what my step dad just went through. He got a little tired toward the end but never got sick. He is fine now. I think he goes back to the oncologist in Oct. So I will pray for you hubby and hope it goes well for him too. And good grief, I sure hope this makes him quit smoking already! I will pray that this treatment takes that urge away at the start.
