Posted - Aug 03 2011 : 09:10:09 AM For all of you who have stood beside me as we have walked through this journey of childhood cancer...here is an update on my sweet Jacob.
This Friday he will have his next (and last!) hospital stay for chemo. The next two Fridays will be out-patient chemo - and then he is done!! Scans will be done afterwards (please continue to pray for good test results!) and then I think it will be check-ups every three months for the next several years, then every six months, then every year for the rest of his life.
Jacob is doing great right now. He gets low counts still and has had to continue to have blood and platelet transfusions off and on due to low hemoglobin and platelets (normal with such strong chemo) but he has not had an infection or sickness because of the chemo (knock on wood!). His body has been so strong throughout this and he is such a fighter and champ.
I know I've been missing in action here for awhile but there is just so much to keep up with that I let things slide here and there. I can not thank you all enough for the HUGE support that you all have been to me - there are just not words to express it. You all are awesome ladies and I hope you realize that you truly helped lift some of the burden from me throughout this journey.
We will be starting homeschooling right around the time of Jacob's last treatment and the kids are looking forward to that - I ordered their books yesterday and we will be going shopping for school supplies this weekend or next. I'm glad that they can look forward to normal kid things right now.
-Elizabeth

Posted - Nov 28 2011 : 4:43:57 PM I am just checking in to read of Jacob's recovery - I keep him and your family in my prayers everyday and know what it is like to sit with this ever hanging over your heads. I see him in full recovery without any changes in this health, energy and continual healing. I send love and light to you and yours. Blessings and Full Healing.

Posted - Nov 23 2011 : 6:56:10 PM It's been awhile since I've updated! Jacob's scans at the end of August came back clear! His three month scan is coming up next week (the 2nd)...I'm nervous thinking about it so please keep little Jacob and us in your prayers that everything still comes back clear. I'm going to have scanxitiy for years!
But Jacob is doing great! His energy has returned, his hair is back, and he's back to just being a kid! We did just find out that he has nine cavities (probably due to parts of his treatment) but that is a drop in the bucket compared to what he has been through (though it hurts this mommy heart to know that he has to go through one more thing!). I will update after next week.
During this week of Thanksgiving I want to thank you all for surrounding us with your love and prayers. Jacob has been snuggling with the quilt and blankets you all made him. I can't thank you enough for all the love you have shown us! -Elizabeth |

Posted - Aug 05 2011 : 06:16:46 AM Wonderful news Elizabeth - I will be keeping Jacob and your family always in my prayers and thoughts. It will be great to get back to a normal schedule for both him and the family. I so know what that does to a family and how the little routines mean so much. Let us know if there is anything we can do and just know you are loved and prayed for.
