Posted - Nov 28 2010 : 8:31:16 PM I spoke with Dad last night and it looks like his thumb is healing really well. He went to the doctor two days ago. The doctor told him that he hadn't expected to see the thumb doing this well already and that dad didn't need to come back for several months. He has lost most of his thumbnail and when the time comes they will laser away the rest of the nail bed so he won't have a weird shaped nail spike growing from his thumb. I am so grateful that this turned out so well. It could have been much worse. Thank you for all of your love and support during the healing process for my Dad!
I just spoke with Dad. They changed his dressing yesterday and new tissue is growing in with good blood supply and no sign of infection. Right now they are planning to let him heal without surgery! Thank you Lord! Please continue to pray and send healing thoughts. The next couple weeks are crucial while his body heals and covers the damaged bone. Until that is completely covered, the risk of infection is very high.
He was doing some wood working today and the radial saw bit into this thumb. It sounds like it was a machine malfunction but I am not exactly sure. It chewed up the top of his thumb, but luckily no functionality was lost, however they will need to do some skin grafting for it to heal.
Any prayers or positive thoughts are appreciated.

Posted - Dec 07 2010 : 6:07:49 PM Alee: prayers for your dad. My uncle sawed his finger off while cutting wood. Picked it up and someone took him to the doctor who sewed it back in place and that was 50 years ago. God bless

Posted - Dec 07 2010 : 5:32:03 PM Still a couple of weeks. Probably not for even a month! The tissue has to grow over the wound before we are really out of the woods- and then even some time after that to hope that no bacteria is breeding internally!

Posted - Dec 02 2010 : 05:00:40 AM Alee, Praying that your Dad will be able to keep his thumb, and that he heals quickly! I'm sure he is doing everything the doctor tells him to - very important! My daugheter had her index finger cut off with a wood splitter, they were able to re attach it and it is fine, but we went through the thought of amputation also. Very scarry indeed! many prayers for your Daddy! and you too hugs, Ruth

Posted - Nov 30 2010 : 10:27:19 AM They are going to give his finger 2 weeks with constant supervision to try to start healing, but if it gets infected or anything they are going to amputate the first part of his finger. I thought I was handling this pretty well but I am so devestated for my dad. He is being a trooper and I am so upset! How silly is that?

Posted - Nov 29 2010 : 2:59:02 PM Alee the exact same thing happened to my husband years ago! It was an awful looking mess. But, it healed up very well and he has been fine with it. I am sure your Dad will be too. I hope it heals quickly with no complications. Can't leave them alone with their toys for a second, lol!

Posted - Nov 29 2010 : 08:55:59 AM Alee - praying for your father, ouch! I used to work for hand surgeons; this time of year there was a lot of those type injuries and also snowblower injuries, both of these type of injuries happen easily but the snowblower ones can be prevented in most cases. Always, always turn off snowblower before using your hands to clear the shoot or anything else, again ouch! |
