Posted - Sep 10 2010 : 6:54:28 PM Hubby Gary broke his knee cap last week. The ER doctor said it was no biggy and put him on crutches with an immobilizer. She said he needed to see an orthopedist. After fighting with my insurance and our regular doctor (boy will that change when our new insurance time comes at work), we finally got to see the new doc today. Well, he did a real number. Just a "simple" fracture but it went totally through the knee cap. Before I know it, he is having surgery next Tuesday, 9/14. Just pray for my sanity. He's really more upset about being immobile and unable to drive for 6-8 weeks and his folks are dealing with his younger brother getting a hip replacement in the next week or so, so we're in this on our own. Thanks in advance for all the prayers and good wishes as they are really appreciated.

Posted - Sep 14 2010 : 9:29:57 PM Okay, DH had surgery today. Took a little longer than expected and they found arthritic changes while they were in there. The doc came out and said he was all put together with "2 pins and baling wire". I told him that obviously baling wire is good for other things than farming as all orthopedic surgeons I've ever known see to use that stuff. They showed me pictures and everything looks good. DH was extremely grumpy and not very nice coming out of the drugs, but now he's doing much better. The lady from across the street came in as we drove up and helped me get him in the house. Other than pain and being very clumsy on his crutches, he is doing so well.
Thank y'all so very much for your prayers and best wishes. I don't have any family to speak of, so y'all are the closest I have.

Posted - Sep 12 2010 : 8:06:51 PM Thank you all so much. I think part of my apprehension is that my late husband had to have a leg amputated and simply gave up. The last 3 years of our marriage were pure hell because of his health problems. Nobody explained anything to me and in the beginning we dealt with military "doctors" (I was the active duty member). I think I'm afraid of DH just giving up and getting all grouchy and mean and taking it out on us. But, we did speak about that today and he has assured me that it will all be different. He knew my late hubby and understands when I went through back then, so hopefully it will be better.
Thank you all so much and I will keep every one updated.

Posted - Sep 10 2010 : 7:05:43 PM Prayers are on the way! Best wishes for sucessful surgery and quick recovery. My DH had knee surgery about 30 years ago and it went well even then, and things are much improved now. It is so frustrating to be told its n"no big deal" and then finding out it is a lot more. Thank goodness you found out before more damage was done. Susan
