Posted - Aug 31 2010 : 3:23:36 PM Some of you may remember my Grandma from this board. Several years ago she was going through a lot and low on funds. I "auctioned" off some old quilts and quilt pieces on here to raise some money for her and you all stepped up to the plate and bid the pieces up!! Thank you! Now my Grandma is 83 years old. This past week she found out that she has lung cancer which has spread to her brain. We are still waiting for the biopsy (on Thursday...prayers please!) to tell us what cancer she is dealing with and then it will be up to her doctors and her on what/if any treatment she should have. From research that the family has done it does not sound like a good prognoisis...about a year or so. She hasn't heard that yet and that's good...she can come to terms with it at her own speed. She is a strong woman and I hope her faith will be able to carry her through the difficult times ahead. My Grandpa died 23 years ago so she has been alone since then, though she does have ten children and handfuls of grandchildren. I am asking for prayers for her peace and comfort during this difficult time and maybe a miracle that it turns out to be a less agressive cancer than what we are thinking it is. Either way, she is the type of woman who loves mail but gets very little of it. She loves it so much, in fact, that she opens every piece of junk mail that she receives and reads that from front to back too! Would any of you farmgirls be kind enough to mail her a little card or little something to cheer her up?! A little surprise in the mail can sometimes make the whole day brighter! If you are interested just send me a message and I'll e-mail her address to you! Thank you so much! -Elizabeth www.trenchesofmommyhood.blogspot.com |

Posted - Sep 09 2010 : 4:17:12 PM Elizabeth, Thanks for the update - I'm sorry it wasn't good though. I sent Grandma a card, I think last Friday. Hope all these "hugs" in the form of mail will brighten her days. I love the elderly, they are such a blessing, and give us so much wisdom. Hugs and continued prayers, Ruth

Posted - Sep 05 2010 : 07:43:37 AM Thank you all for sending a card and prayers! I am hoping that my Grandma is showered with both and gets excited around mail time! :)
She has received the results of her lung biopsy. The cancer is Stage 4 adenocarcinoma, metacized to the brain. This is a non-small cell carcinoma, but since it has already gone to the brain, just as serious. Her appointment with the oncologist is the 15th, where she will see what her options are. She is an 83 year old woman and this cancer is not cureable, but I hope there is an option that can make her more comfortable or at least "maintain" the cancer to some degree without making her sick.
Many more prayers for her are asked for. I want her to be at peace and enjoy each and every day of life! -Elizabeth |
