He moved out when he was 17, and hes 36 now. He has been home once, when his dad passed. He called and wants to come home, hes got lots of emotional and physical baggage due to years of drug abuse, along with major anger issues. He asked that I help him get into a rehab for as long as it takes, then move back here and do his best to change his life back to the man I know he can be. Its going to be a very long and hard road for us all, but I think with all the familys help, and my son, for the first time admiting his problems and asking for help, we may just make it...

He may need the jail time to help him get clean, This could be a good thing believe it or not. Talk to the people in charge, ask them to help you get him on the right track. Drug addicts often resourt to stealing. They don't want to keep him locked up. That costs the state a lot of money. Get his lawyer to try to place him in a rehab center, Have the lawyer make it a part of his release that he go to rehab and AA or NA for at least 1 year and if he fails that then give him jail for a year. It may help. Drugs are bad they make good people do things they never would of done before. We need to find a way to treat them so they can clean up. My son attends AA bi-weekly and never misses church. He said those help him through the rough times and if needed he goes more frequently. He does not attened the church he was raised in he found a different one and when he took me there one Sunday I wanted to join it, but it is just to far away from me.
Your whole family are in my prayers. It is hard, but have faith it CAN be done..((HUG))

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

Teresa, I hope this last issue is solved quickly, and like you that your son can home home and be loved and be straight. Like all the gals have said, it's a tough road ahead of him, first hurdle was asking for help, and it will be tough on you and your family also. You're the kind of woman that will find the strength to guide him along, as I'm sure the rest of your family will. Won't it be nice to have a "new" family member around?? My love and prayers to you!!

Bad and sad news, my brother drove up to pick-up my son and his belongings, to bring him home, and as they were packing him up, the police arrived and he was arrested. I don't know all the details yet, but he is being charged with robbery. I hope he is innocent, but I know better in my heart. All of his belongings are here now, and al I can do is hope and pray he makes it thru this mess, and can come home and heal. Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes...

Teresa, You and your son will be in my prayers. God does change hearts and heals hurts, but it can take time and willingness. We will be praying as you travel this road together.

Dianne, What a beautiful testimony of healing and hope!

I have walked in those shoes and they hurt a lot. I have also seen that when a person puts his mind to it, make a recovery that police said will never happen, happen. I am a mother who had to watch her son go to jail and when asked if I would bail him out I told the police I have aways told my children if you do the crime you will do the time. I cried for months and I prayed every day. I still pray daily for him. My son is now a lawyer who helps out people who has walked in his path. He has changed a few judges minds letting them know jail does no good but rehab does, especially when they live in the rehab home for a few months and attend AA or NA daily when they get home. My son has had a few slip-ups thinking he can drink at home. He knows he can never drink again. ( I made a promise to God never to eat choclate again if he just made it a little easier for my son to stay sober.) My son slipped once and my friends said now you can eat choclate, I said no my promise was to God. Is it worth the struggle??? YES it is. You and your son are in my prayers.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

Teresa, he will surely be in our prayers. He'll have a long hard road to travel. But with the support of family he will make it if he tries and if he wants to. I know exactly what you will be dealing with. Have gone through it with mine too.

Teresa - you and your son will be in my thoughts and prayers. That is huge that he is admitting his problems. The family has the tough job of being supportive but non-judgemental, slip-ups happen but it doesn't mean it's the end. I hope all goes well!!

Teresa, praying that your son finds the strength to overcome his addictions and that you find the strength to see him through it all.

I'm saying a prayer for him. My neighbor recently went to rehab after years and years of alcohol abuse. It was her choice. Admitting that he has a problem is half the battle won.
