Posted - Jun 19 2010 : 1:27:29 PM We just got a call from the sheriff today that the Army Corp of Engineers is having a meeting on Monday to decide if they have to flood us. We are down below Lake Red Rock Dam. We were flooded in 2008 & I am not looking forward to it again. All of my garden is in & growing. It will be completely lost-water about 4 feet deep. We won't be able to stay in the house cause they have to shut power off & the pump will be under water. So no water. Water in the garage & lapping at the door! We moved it all out in 08. Then of course there's the animals that have to be moved. Prayers that it doesn't come to this.

Posted - Jul 09 2010 : 10:46:59 AM I looked the lake up on the map. Seems like a pretty good sized lake. Isn't there some reason that they could trickle the water out? Of course, I have been hearing about "mandatory flood insurance" for people who get flooded. Seems totally unreasonable to me.
Your gardens are absolutely gorgeous. I wish I had gotten mine in sooner. I'm so sorry this is happening to you.

Posted - Jun 30 2010 : 08:11:09 AM Thank you so much! It is a bit scary! It isn't life threatening but does destroy property. I just hate the thought of losing my garden again! There are so many little things that have to be doen. We are still praying for no rain but it does not look promising. They are going to let out more on Saturday. In 2008 the flood damaged one of our levees & now we don't know how fast it will come in. Thanks again!

Posted - Jun 29 2010 : 05:27:50 AM My farm girl friend came & helped me dig 1 row of onions. Thanks! Now I have 22lbs of onions done & 6 more rows to do!! I have been handing out potaoes & onions to some of the elderly in our church. I know they miss planting a garden & I want to share! I better get back to work! At this point we are having a dry spell-maybe 4 days, I hope. Still raising the amount being let out. Water at the banks edge. We have 3 feet in the hay field. And a large pond in the corn field.

Posted - Jun 23 2010 : 2:52:02 PM The sheriff called again today to let us know that the numbers have increased. They will be letting out more water earlier than expected. Of couirse it will all change with more rain. Guess I am going to pack some stuff up from the lower level. All of what you see in the pictures above could be 5 feet under water like last time. I am pulling onions & digging potaotes though. I have potatoes the size of baseballs so I am not going to lose them if I can help it. The onions are already that size too so they are coming out & getting processed. Lots of work to do. Prayers needed and appreciated!

Posted - Jun 21 2010 : 10:38:06 AM We have levies all around the farm but they only hold back for so long-last time they went over the levee & all. My garden is doing so great! I took pics but will have to show you later. I am going to pull the onions & get them done as they are baseball size already! Going to dig a hill of potatoes & see if they are new potato size cause I could can them at that size. The rest will be lost. I think I will dig up my raspberries that I just planted. Too much to do! Will keep you posted! Tahnks for all the prayers.

Posted - Jun 21 2010 : 10:24:10 AM I wonder if you could make a permanent flood wall? Maybe a two layer brick wall with sandbags in between the layers?

Posted - Jun 20 2010 : 06:57:19 AM They built Lake Re4d Rock & anyone who lived below the dam had to sign a paper to be flooded anytime the Corp wanted to. The price for recreation I guess. For some it has kept them from flooding every year but for others well we'll see. I hope it does not come to this but it is not looking good-we have rain forecasted all week! The house was inches away from it last time but we have 2 levels & we are just going to move things up this time instead of out. But that doesn't help the animals or garden. I have onions the size of baseballs already so will probably start harvesting them before the flood-at least I will save them! It is a little overwhelming!

Posted - Jun 19 2010 : 5:41:44 PM I am totally confused. What's the purpose of intentional flooding? I've never heard of such a thing. Will your house get flooded with water? I'm lost....

Posted - Jun 19 2010 : 5:02:42 PM Karla, why do they have to do this? Why can't they wait til fall? My goodness, that seems like a lot of mess. I hope and pray they will not have to do it.
