Hi ladies-

I don't often ask for prayers and good thoughts, but today and the next couple of weeks I sure could use it.

I just got over the flu and on the first day returning to work (Tuesday) I got a sore throat. It wasn't bad, I figured I had slept with my mouth open and maybe hurt the tissues back there. Well by yesterday my right tonsil had swollen to the size of a large marble. I am having problems breathing at night and have had several instances of choking/coughing because of the pressure in my throat.

I have pretty chronic tonsilitis/strep/post nasal drip. My tonsils are overly enlarged and have crypts. They need to go. Instead of helping my body fight of infection, because of the damage they have sustained they foster infections.

Today I tested positive for an aggressive Strep strain. I have antibiotics and prescription pain meds. In two weeks I have an appointment with an Ear/Nose/Throat guy and it looks like they are going to remove my tonsils.

I know it's not logical but I am terrified of being put under anethesia. I am sure it will be very uneventful.

But if I could get some prayers to get over this most current infection, hopefully not pass it on to Nora or Doug, and also to be brave for surgery I would so very much appreciate it!

I love you ladies! You are all my very good friends and I am so glad to have the opportunity to know you through this forum. Even after all these years on the forum it still causes me to have moments of wonder when I realize how much love and friendship we share with each other every day. *hugs*

Alee, I had my tonsils out at age 21. I know you will be glad you did. I know I was glad when it was over. I will recommend that you drink a lot. I ended up with some problems because I didn't drink enough water. I did find out that drinking cold 7-up was the best. The cold bubbles felt great on my throat.

My step-daughter had her's out at age 23. Her doctor told her to eat a peanut-butter sandwich everyday. She did but was glad to wash it down with the cold 7-up. I still wonder why they wanted her to do that.

I will keep you in my prayers.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

Thank You ladies! I am doing much better today. I felt absolutely wretched this morning but after a nap this afternoon and drinking even more water (I feel like I am going to float away) I am starting to feel a bit more normal. I am also starting to realize that what I have accepted as "normal" has been a low grade infection all along. There is no way that after only a full 24 hours I would be back to normal so it will be interesting to see what these antibiotics get rid of in my system.

My massive swollen tonsil has gone down so much- I am still getting bloody noses associated with Strep, but hopefully that too will heal soon. Hopefully I will be able to sleep through the night tonight!

I am so sorry to hear that Alee. I certainly will be praying for you and keep you in my thoughts. I remember about 6 years ago, I was about to have surgery and the surgery itself was not my problem....going under was my issue also. I did fine. My grandson had his tonsilitis and ateniods out and I was so scared of him going under that I almost went into a panic attack. He did great and was in and out in no time. You would not believe how great he is now and hardly ever gets sick, before that the poor child stayed sick with very high fevers. I wish you the best - prayers and a big hug sent your way. Keep us posted.

Praying for you Alee! I was very anxious about anesthesia, too. It's amazing how quickly a surgery like this can go so you shouldn't even be under for very long. Praying for quick healing, comfort and confidence.

Prayer costs nothing, but is worth the most.

Thank you ladies. I am up at 2:20 in the morning because I woke up choking again. This swollen tonsil has got to go.

They say you know you are ready for labor when you get over your fear of the labor pains and start looking forward to it so all the little discomforts and pains of pregnancy can go away. That is kindof how I feel about surgery for these tonsils.

I have sat here and worried about surgery on my tonsils for years. I have always been a bit afraid whenever I go to the doctor for a sore throat that they were going to say "get rid of them". But it must be the right time because this fear I have been carrying for years is quickly melting aways with anticipation of relief. I just wish my appointment to get scheduled for surgery was sooner!

Oh Alee, I remember all that you're going through, but I was 13 when I had to have my tonsils out. I will spare you the details of my experience with having them out because it was a "rare" messy and awful experience, but I will pray that you can get them out soon and that it will go perfectly for you because I know how miserable it is to live with constant illness because of the tonsils.

Father in Heaven, I lift up my "Sister", Alee, to Your mighty hands. I ask that you will give her relief from the constant sickness and inflammation in her tonsils while she waits for surgery to get them out. I pray that the strep will go away quickly so that they will be able to perform the surgery safely. And I pray that you will guide the hands of the physicians so that they will do a good job and that Alee will have a quick and full recovery. Thank You for hearing our prayers for our dear friend, Alee.

(((HUGS))) Alee. You will feel SO GOOD when you finally get those things out. You won't miss them a bit LOL!

Alee--I used to have a fear of anesthesia and still do to a degree, so I understand how you feel. but the nurses are trained very well and the few times I've had it, it's been uneventful. I'll say a prayer that you feel better soon and that you have no fear. And never hesitate to ask for prayers or good thoughts--that's why we're here!

Alee, you are in my thoughts sweetie *HUGZ* I know it sounds pretty scary, but it shouldn't take them long at all to get those nasty tonsils out. But being put under IS scary. I will keep you close in my thoughts. I hope that you feel better soon.

Thanks ladies! I hear it can be a bit harder on adults than on children but I can take medical leave from work and I am going to try to get the doctor to excuse me for 2-3 weeks since my job is talking all day! I would rather take my reduced pay for a few days longer and be fully healed when I go back.

Alee,

You are going to be sooooo glad to have your tonsils removed! My daughter was 9 and I said enough of strep all winter long. We had them taken out and do you know she has NEVER had another case of strep--she's 29 years old now!

You will do just fine, Alee!
