Dear Farmgirls,

As I have discussed in the thread "My Sis . . ." we have a son who has Down Syndrome. He is 36 years old and lives in a host home with a 24/7 caregiver who has been with him for over 16 years. He lives in a town just 5 miles away so we see him frequently. He spends Sundays with us as well as other occasions and often is here for overnight stays or a few days. He doesn't live with us because we believe he needs his own life and for things to be in place for him in the event we are no longer around. He also needs other people involved in his life.

He attends what is called "Day Program" Monday - Friday for about 6 hrs. where they do a variety of activities in the facility, but are also often out and about in the community.

There are some concerns about funding (most of it is through the State of Colorado) and significant changes in services.
There are concerns about things that he hears at Day Program and how it impacts his behavior.
There are concerns about a situation that worries his caregiver . . . and I can't get into the details of that.

My hubby and Jeremy's dad is ABSOLUTELY the best in all of this and always has been. His sister is ABSOLUTELY the best in all of it and always has been. As I mentioned in "My Sis . . ." I don't feel like there has really been ACCEPTANCE on the part of many of other family members of him . . .

. . . so, with him being this ever present "handicapped" family member and now my sister, who used to be self-sufficient, independent, etc., etc . . .

It's like it's not acceptable to have handicapped family members . . well, I just ask for prayers in this situation too. I just don't understand the lack of family support!!!! It's pretty tough to take!!!

Thanks for listening! Thanks for your prayers!!!

CJ, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Your son is too. I don't understand how any family member could not accept such loving beautiful people like your son. I am sure he is the nicest sweetest guy.

CJ, I am SO sorry that you are dealing with all of this. Siobhan's prayer said it all, I am in agreement and on my knees.

CJ, I am so sorry you have to deal with all this. My family is the same way my cousin had a brain tumor on her putitary when she was little they got it but ever since she has been on heavy meds and their are many things she cant do. She has 3 sisters and 1 brother and none of them speak to her. She lives with her parents and she says I am more like a sister then any of her real sisters. I dont understand why people can not just accept the person as who they are and love them. You are in my thoughts and prayers dear one. xxoo Blessings, Karen

CJ, I pray and think of you every day. You have so much on your plate, but still find time for all your farmgirl sisters. You are an amazing woman and your son and sister are fortunate to have you in their lives. I would personally like to drive to Colorado and give you a big hug. You are a true earth angel. Just keep on keeping on and remember, your farmgirl sisters are here for you. I repeated that beautiful prayer that Siobhan wrote for you. Please, if you need anything just say the word.

CJ, I'm so sorry you're not getting the support from your family that you need. That is really awful. :( Know that you and ALL your family are loved and appreciated here and that whatever we can do to help out, though most of us are far, we will do it. And the least we can do is lift up your cares to the Father and believe for His hand to work in the whole situation.

Father in heaven, thank you for my farmgirl sister, CJ, and her always positive and sweet spirit that she brings to this "family". I thank you for creating her to be a compassionate person who genuinely loves people and wants the best for everyone she meets. Father, I pray that you would place Your hand on that part of her heart that is hurting right now., that place that feels alone in this and remind her that You are right there and you are her family. You love her so much and want her to be at peace when it comes to her son and his living arrangements. I pray that Your peace will just fill her heart and wash away all of the concerns she's having right now and that she would know that as she gives his care into Your hands, that they are strong hands and that he will be well taken care of. I also pray that you will move in the hearts of CJ's family members that are not being supportive and that their hearts would be softened toward her son and that they would gather around CJ and support her in the trials that come with having a handicapped child. Father, give CJ strength in all of this and allow Your joy to be that strength. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

(((HUGS))) to you CJ. We are here whenever you need to talk or share a prayer request.

Oh CJ, I'm sorry to hear that family is not there for you. I see you on here always and you are so giving and concerned about others. This is not fair to you. And I feel privileged to be able to keep you and your son and family in my prayers.

My best to all,
Mel
