Posted - Apr 13 2010 : 06:29:30 AM Poor little Violet spent the majority of last night at the ER after being referred by our pediatrician. Justin called yesterday to say she was very lethargic, and seemed to have a fever, so I ran home at lunch and found she was very warm. Changed her clothes to something cooler, gave her some tylenol and we both decided that we would call the doc, if necessary, when I got home from work. When I got home, she was sitting in her high chair eating, but her lips, hands, and feet were bluish/purple and cold. Despite her cool extremities, she was VERY hot, so I called the pediatrician, who said, "go to the ER, she needs oxygen."...
Her pulse-oxygen rate was 94 when we arrived, and fluctuated between 94 and 96 which, to the ER head doc was "unacceptable", along with a fever of 103.2. They did a chest x-ray and found severe congestion in her lungs, and gave her Motrin to lower her fever. We were unable to leave with her until her pulse-ox was 99-100%, which took about 3 hours after a strong dose of amoxycillin. At about 10:00, we were allowed to go home with a laundry list of "to do's" and an immediate follow up with her pediatrician.
Poor little thing, even while she was crying and feeling so poorly in the er room, she still managed to "patty cake" and "rooooolll it!" to make her momma smile.
Think of our little Violet this week as she makes her way to recovery. Thanks

Posted - Apr 22 2010 : 06:51:35 AM Thank you all so very much...I just know she made it through all of this because you all were sending prayers her way...and that fruit-flavored amoxycillin didn't hurt, either :)
She is back to her happy, giggling, very verbal self. Her rash is gone, her runny nose is gone, her cough, and her color has returned. Her word this week? "Ssssssstop!" Which just cracks us up. She says it to the dogs, cats, the wind, whatever. Just as long as she doesn't say it to us!!!

Posted - Apr 18 2010 : 1:38:23 PM Jonni,
I will keep you all in my prayers. I know how scary that can be! We went through a very scary period last year when my daughter was finally diagnosed with mesenteric lymphadenitis. A fancy way of saying swollen lymph glands in the abdomen. You are doing a great job! I know it is really tough sometimes, and don't ever hesitate to run to the ER if your 'mommy senses' tell you to!!! :0)

Posted - Apr 16 2010 : 07:05:38 AM Hey Janice et al! Violet looks a LOT worse than I think she feels, now. She broke out in an extremely ugly rash all over her chest, back and neck yesterday (perfect timing for the fup visit to the doc) who felt that her high fever and this subsequent rash was Roseola...the rash comes after the fever breaks, which would be about right. Since it's viral, there's really nothing to do except wait it out...she's not contagious, that part is over, but poor little thing looks like she's been bitten by a million fleas. Her temp was normal, and she's eating again, and she's laughing. Our neighbor, Mary, bought her a Nick Jr. video called "At the Farm" and she carried it around, laughing at the cover for most of the night, so that's a boon!
I gave her a bath last night with oatmeal and put her in a nice, soft onsie made by "Halo" which is a totally breathable fabric and she slept...well, like a baby.
Thank you all for your good thoughts and your concerns for our little family. I know that, across the miles, your good wishes have helped this little one get back to usual happy self.
Love, The Lynch's...
