early this year my husband recieved a letter from the VA Hospital in Murfreesboro TN. it stated that he was one of many vets that had been treated at the hospital and potentially exposed to aids, hep a,b & c as well as other blood borne infections. he had to go in and have all the testing done. needless to say it was a long few weeks. then one evening around 6:00pm his VA dr. calls ( knew that wasn't good). he has hep c. which explains the onset of exhaustion and aches and pains he had been having. the dr's want to start interferon treatments but we have decided to try some alt. meds first. please keep he and all the vets that have been exposed in your thoughts and prayers.

by the way we have no legal recourse ~ you can't sue govt. hospitals that are providing free treatment ( even though he recieves treatment because he lost his eye in combat during vietnam)... heck they even lowered his disability because they said his eye was better ( he has an artifical eye!!). when we called they said there was less scare tissue!?!?!? the gov. at its finest

I also have Hep.C I got it from my job along with 7 co-workers. I worked in a mental hospital and got scratched and a lot more almost daily. I couldn't blame my patients, but it took me 3 years before I got my sick time back. and that is all I got. Keep eating healthy and excerise..I'll keep you both in my prayers.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

Tamara,

I am so sorry to hear about your husband and will keep him in prayer.

I would consider getting a VA representative and appealing the disability claim. My Dad had many disabilities as a result of serving in the Korean War. He had to fight for the proper disability rating. He went straight to a Congressman.

It's amazing how poorly the Government treats veterans. Here are men and women who have served their country so that we could taste freedom and they are treated like garbage. Sorry, to rant but between seeing my dad and my husband go through difficulties and now Tamara's husband it really makes me mad!

Hi Tamara, I had wondered if you could sue them for negligence. I guess the government really can do anything they want and get away with it!!! well, at least they should have to increase his payments again shouldn't they? I mean he could have less scar tissue, but he didn't have Hep. C until they gave it to him!!!!! maybe they need some more bad publicity.

sorry, for the rant, but I get so angry when our vets are so badly treated. I'm glad your hubby is already living a healthy lifestyle, should give him a head start on healing. blessings Phyllis

thank you for all of your kind words. my hubby is one of the healthies people i know. from diet to exercise. as a matter of fact prior to this his dr's said he is healthier than most 30 year olds. lots of veggies, fruits and whole grains. he drinks tons of water and fruit juice we make ourselves plus herbal teas. he runs 3-5 miles 5 days out of the week and can work most 20 year olds into the ground. he is 58!

it is just sad and scary to see him so tired and so worn out....right now i am just angry that this was caused by carelessness plain and simple......

live well,
Tamara

I'm so sorry, Tamara...I'm just floored by the way this has transpired, but I'm hopeful that he will get the treatment he needs. Believe it or not, I know 6 people right now (all males) who have Hep C. It can be controlled--in one person, it completely helped him make more healthy decisions about eating and living, and he's been in remission for a number of years.

Sorry, I'm trying to put a positive spin on it...I think because it's true, but also because I'm just so sorry.

Oh, Tamara! What an awful thing. I don't know how any of us get in and out of a hospital alive these days. And it's even more painful to think that this is the level of care provided to our injured veterans.

I hope your husband will be feeling better soon and not suffer any further problems because of this extreme negligence.

Thanks Ladies!

Alee ~ the hep c was contracted through a colonoscopy. The VA had the part of the machine that you insert on backwards. The equipment was actually transfering body fluids ( yea i know ... GROSS) to different people. Plus they acknowleged they did not clean these properly ( even more gross....)

Tamera,
oh my goodness! I find all this unreal. I so feel for you and your family. My dad is a Veteren from Vietnam and he has suffered permenant effects mostly ignored by our government; my heart goes to all veterens and their families.

When I was traveling in Central America I got Hep A and was horribly sick. I took dried herbs in capsules of Blessed Thistle, Dandilion and Yellow Dock and that helped my liver gently clense. It is a slow heal, taking lots of patience and restful moments.

Out of curiousity I checked out Louise Hay's book "Heal your body" and this is what she writes about
Hepatitis
Negative thought pattern:Resistance to change. Fear, anger, hatred. Liver is the seat of anger and rage.
Positive thought pattern: My mind is cleansed and free. I leave the past and move into the new. All is well.

I thought that was really cool that your tag line is "Live Well" sound like he's on the path to healing. . .
I will hold you in my thoughts, prayers and wishes for good new beginnings,
h
