Tuesday evening I developed a horrible toothache. The pain radiated into my jaw and ear.

Went to the dentist yesterday, and he says I need a root canal, and put me on antibiotics and pain meds. The root canal is going to cost $2,300 We just don't have that kind of money right now, but I'm still in so much pain that postponing it isn't an option. I asked if they could just pull the tooth, but was told that due to the location, I'd have to get a bridge to keep the other teeth from shifting, and that would be even more expensive.

Please pray that we're able to find a way to pay for this, and that I get some relief from the pain.

Yeah, WHERE did we find these winners of men? We love them, but what ARE we to them, just an expense? I finally told my husband to shove it, and now, I shove my shiny white and pain free gorgeous expensive teeth into his face every time he raises issues with me.

I will die with all my own teeth. Nothing will get pulled because he wouldn't pay for it. Mine are prettier than his. I pay for my dental work with my own cash. I will take my pearly whites with me when I leave.

You know that if his teeth hurt, he'd be paying for his treatment with a credit card in a heartbeat, right?

Use that Care Credit. Pay for it yourself. SMILE PROUD AND PAIN FREE. I will be thinking of you and helping you to be strong!

Leslie-The receptionist at my dentist office gave me a brochure on Care Credit. I applied and was accepted. That's the good news.

The bad news is that you and I must have the same hubby! Ever since he found out I need the root canal, I've been getting the silent/sullen treatment. Geeze, it's not like I did this on purpose to myself! This is the same man who yelled at me for going to the ER instead of just the doctor in January when I had severe abdominal pain(which turned out to be a hot appendix that needed emergency surgery). It just irks me that he makes me feel guilty any time I get sick...like I'm just doing it to cost him money.

Diana--I don't know if there are any dental colleges on your side of the river, but there is one in Alton. I'm not sure if they accept out of state cases, but seem worth a shot. They're a heck of a lot cheaper than a regular dentist. I know people who have had work done there and they were happy with it. Hope you feel better soon.

I feel your pain, actually feel it!
I just finished having my root canal last week. Mine cost $2400. It includes the root canal, post & core, and the porcelin crown that I'll get in about 6 months.
Do you have any dental insurance at all? I do, and it only pays for roughly half. I say roughly lightly, lol. My husband nearly had a heart attack and didn't speak to me for days. Talk about feeling guilty! (The man has major money issues).
Anyway, there are a couple of payment plans you could apply for. They are easy to work with. One that I am considering using for the crown portion of my bill is Care Credit. It's interest free. www.carecredit.com
I can't remember the other one, but when I do I'll post it. The proceedures have to be spaced out a few weeks apart, so you can have time to save up, but if you don't have any insurance at all, you might want to check out the Care Credit Plan.

I'm sorry you are in pain. It'll hurt for awhile, in more ways than one. {{hugs}}

It is true that teeth don't shift as quickly as they'd like to make you think they will. I had several back teeth pulled due to infection and no money and they were fine and I never had anything shift. I can't say that yours won't but if it's the only way you can get relief, then just get it pulled and do a bridge later. A bridge can't be that much if done by a denturist - a full set of plates is only $1,000 which is cheaper than that one root canal. I don't know about your state but here you can by-pass the dentist and go straight to the denturist. No matter what you decided I hope for a pain free mouth for you I know how bad a tooth ache can be.

Blessings,

Sheri

I feel for you teeth can be so painful and they make you feel awful.

Does there happen to be a dental college around sometimes the cost isn't as bad there.

Hi Diana,
Sorry to hear you are going through so much pain and troubles.
Just on a side note...You don't have to get a bridge, you can have them just pulled. you could do the bridge as the money comes avaiable...your teeth dont shift as quickly as the dentists would like to make everyone think they do. They sort of do that to push to scare you so that you think you have to do it whether you have the money or not. If you tell them you want it pulled and just that, they will do it. You can always do the bridge later. :DI will be praying that God would take the pain away and that He would provide for what you need to have done.

BIG HUGS!!!

Good luck Diane. I had two root canals and neither of them worked, I had to have the teeth pulled anyway. One tooth was way back so I didn't miss it. The other one is between two other teeth, but not near the front. I haven't had any problems with teeth movement. Someday I may get a bridge but for now its fine. The rest of my teeth are in real good shape. You might want to research root canals or ask around to see what you want to do. Hope it works out for you. Teeth are not only painful when they act up, but very costly!
